Christian Music For Reception

Madelyne & Joseph's, on September 2, 2017 at 11:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 35

Any song ideas for a Christian Wedding Reception? What are good appropriate songs we need songs for our reception but don't know what songs are good to dance to that aren't too vulgar or sexualized. Any ideas!! Thank you!

Check out radiou.com. they play all Christian music and they have dance mixes as well. otherwise alot of adult contemporary music or classic jazz music would be good as well

Hey- I know the feeling. We're having a Christian ceremony but definitely want a dance party. We're planning on playing a lot of oldies, Micheal Jackson, etc. that guests will enjoy but that aren't too sexual/vulgar in nature. Lots will probably be nostalgic for guests too. Good luck!

Christian dance music? When the name of Jesus is in the refrain or chorus, the party element changes. For most Americans, that name means something -- and that something could be negative. That may seem odd to you because you're Christians, but to those who aren't, it's not conducive to what you're looking for -- which is dancing. Actually, there may be those who were raised in strict religious homes who, as adults, don't subscribe to Christianity, and that type of music be unappealing on the deepest of levels.

You're absolutely entitled to use as much overt CCM (or hymns) at your ceremony as you want; in fact, you can carry it over into the reception, but you may not appreciate the outcome. A religious song or two may not color your entire reception, but an entire reception backed by Christian music? I wouldn't go there. In fact, I'm a firm believer that the best receptions consider those who came of age in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's. If you want to see peoples' eyes light up with recognition, play music that takes them back to the young adult years. You'll likely get a 60 year old up on the floor with Jefferson Airplane -- but you're not likely to get the same reaction if they feel like they're listening to music with a message.

    Anyway...your wedding, your choice.

If you really want Christian music, then I'd suggest you play instrumentals. There's a vast spectrum between praise/worship/message music and sexual raunch (I hear you on that).

Listen to K-Love or Air 1. You can stream them online. There are LOTS of danceable Christian songs.

Brown Eyed Girl..."make love behind the stadium with you, my brown eyed girl".

I think that one may be off the table. Ha ha!

Actually, any song with the word "dance" in it is sexual in nature. Dance (and it's variations) has been used in songs for decades to mean sex.

Christian music and dancing? Nope...I have zero input.

    @Kathy

Van Morison was calling on the Lord when invoking the memory though

'Cast my memory back there, Lord'

Why not just look for decent music that isn't raunchy? Do all of your guests enjoy Christian music? Are they all Christian? It sounds like it would make for a really dull reception. A song or two is one thing but the entire reception is just obnoxious. I am Christian and a music teacher... I'd be super annoyed and leave early if I attended a wedding like that. No one enjoys religion being shoved down their throats and music is supposed to be enjoyable.

"Always and Forever" by KB is really good. FH and I actually dance around my house to a lot of Christian music. Britt Nicole has some awesome stuff. Also, Canon, Colton Dixon, Tauren Wells, Tenth Avenue North, Chris Tomlin, Hawk Nelson, Family Force Five.. I could go on. Throw in some Amy Grant featuring Tori Kelly and some oldies, and you should be good to go.

Not wanting to cause controversy here but how are songs about making love inappropriate but songs about sin/hell/crucifixion all fine to dance to?

"Wond'Ring Aloud" won't fly with most Christians ("...we are our own saviors..."). The album from which it originates, one of my favorites, is "Aqualung", and more than a few songs would be considered blasphemous.
