Chicago Mini-moon- Things to do?

T2018, on February 20, 2018 at 4:01 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

So my future wife and I decided to do our mini-moon in Chicago. We've been there twice before, but we seriously LOVE it there. We considered a few other places, but ultimately settled on Chicago because we always have such a great time there, and it's only about a 6 hour drive which is a plus!

So my question is:

If anyone is familiar with Chicago, what are some of the must see and do things? We've been to the Field Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo and Shedd Aquarium. We LOVED Andersonville, and will definitely be spending some time there. And we've done a bit of exploring downtown. I'd love some fun suggestions on things to see, eat and do this time around!

We had our mini-moon in Chicago too! we stopped in Ann Arbor on the way down and Detroit on the way back (Detroit's another one of our favourite cities). we went to a ton of great restaurants--The Girl and the Goat and Monteverde (best pasta i've ever had) were a couple of our faves, both their chefs had just been on Iron Chef America, too. we drove out to Oak Park one day to see a couple of Frank Lloyd Wright's early houses--definitely book ahead for those if you're interested. also loved the Art Institute and the architectural boat tour--super cool to learn about all the buildings from an architecture expert and see the skyline from the water. we also went to some cool cocktail bars in the Fulton Market neighbourhood, and stayed in Wicker Park, which was an easy train ride from downtown and also a neat area to explore, pretty older houses and cool coffee shops (and Big Star Tacos, omg so good). have fun!

Awesome! I have a few AirBnB's in Wicker Park saved actually (I know, booking last minute ahh!) I think the architectural boat tour is going to be a must. FW definitely wanted to do something boat related. We went on a basic boat tour last time and she loved it. I'm going to look into the Fulton Market neighborhood as well! We live in North East Ohio so Detroit is actually so close to us, I'm thinking we need a weekend there too sometime!

If you like museums I highly recommend the Art Institute - if art isn't your thing, the Museum of Science and Industry is a lot of fun too and very interactive.

Millenium Park is fun and when the weather is nice (mostly during summer) there are movies in the park and theater too. Navy Pier has a lot of stuff to do too, including boat tours on the lake and river. The Chicago Architecture cruise is amazing! You can often find discounts for it on Groupon. In the summer the Tall Ships do lake cruises too.

I live in the burbs outside chicago so if you have any questions about anything specific let me know and I will help if I can Smiley smile

My FH and I currently live in the Chicagoland area! One thing I think you should definitely check out is the Signature Room at the 95th! It's a fancy restaurant that is on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building! From everywhere in the restaurant you can see breathtaking views of the city. It's so romantic! I remember the food and drinks were delicious, but if you like cheesecake, definitely try it there! Also, your future wife should go and check out the view in the Women's bathroom. There might be a line, but the BEST view of the city on the 95th floor is from the women's bathroom!

We also loved the dinner cruises on Lake Michigan. Check out odysseycruises.com for pricing! I'm sure there are other boats that you can try out as well if you were looking for something a little cheaper!

If you love comedy clubs, check out Zanies as they usually have shows throughout the week as well. Pricing isn't bad for tickets, but there is a 2 drink minimum per person.

    I hope this helps!

You should check online, Chicago offers a “city pass”
    https://www.citypass.com/chicago/things-to-do-chicago?mrkgcl=628&mrkgadid=419463669&rkg_id=h-5024c34a96b5129c08947729aeba739b_t-1519163453&mv_source=rkg&adpos=1t1&creative=115087194509&device=m&matchtype=b&network=g&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjdre7ry12QIV1bXACh3H3ADIEAAYASAAEgLYXvD_BwE

That pass will will allow you in to “x” amount of attractions for a flat rate instead of paying for each one separately. I know the Pier has bikes that you can rent in the summer that are fun. The Ferris Wheel is pretty common. I agree that millennium park in the summer is tons of fun too. I used to live in the suburbs and one time my step mom and I made a list of famous status in the city and then went and took pictures with all of them.

If you like jazz, go check out Green Mill. As a local, it is one of my most favorite places to go. The 1920s era vibe is amazing.

I second the Signature Room too. It is an incredible view.

You should definitely check out some theatre while you are here! Also improv/sketch. The big names - Steppenwolf, Goodman, Victory Gardens, Second City... but there are tons of smaller theatres doing amazing work.

Be sure to visit the Willis Tower. There is also a helicopter tour than can take you around the Magnificent mile. Go on a Michigan Ave just to do some sight seeing.Visit Navy Pier, get some Garett Popcorn (Chicago Mix is a must) , Giordano deep dish pizza and try some Portillo.

Yes to improv if you're a fan!

I love the Field Museum and the Lincoln Park Zoo - I'd recommend the Art Institute if you haven't been there yet.

When we went to Chicago last Memorial Day, we ate at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba in Lincoln Park- great tapas and sangria!
