Change vendor(s)?!

Mrs. Spring, on March 1, 2021 at 12:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Have any of you decided not to go with a vendor based on bad reviews? I understand several, but if it's one or two would you still go with someone else?

We checked dates on reviews, looked at the averages, and then decided to contact vendors/venues based on that.

For instance, our venue had not great reviews until about... 2015/16. Then they changed management, and the reviews changed, drastically, for the better. But if you were just looking at reviews without looking at the dates, you'd be worried.

Limo companies seem to have universally terrible reviews, at least around here, so we just went with the most affordable one.

I think reviews are an important thing to weigh before you even contact a vendor. After that, it's how they treat you.

I think for me, it would depend on what the bad reviews are. Vendor didn't show up/didn't deliver final product/wasn't prepared/bad communication/etc? Automatic no from me. Or was the bad review a unique scenario such as, someone signed a contract and then later tried to cancel, and were upset that they weren't getting their money back (even though the contract specified nonrefundable), so they left a bad review? Those I can look past. It also depends on when the bad reviews were from: was it more than 3-4 years ago? Or recent? There's lots to consider with reviews, but overall, take them into account along with other factors (pricing, communication, etc), and go with your instinct as to whether you move on or book them.

For me, it would depend on what the review said. Some people just like to complain. If the review is over something minor, or sounds like someone just wanted to complain, it probably would not keep me from booking that vendor. I would, however, do extensive research to make sure there were no other bad reviews floating around out there.

Like others have said, for me it would depend on the content of the reviews and how long ago it was. It’s the same as how I choose to go to a restaurant. If the bad reviews are about people complaining that they waited 15min for a table, then I wouldn’t care. If there are a bunch of recent reviews saying that the food is terrible then I would think twice about going there
