Ceremony Music

We had our DJ for both the ceremony and reception! Our ceremony was short and sweet with not a lot of music, and our DJ was going to be there for the reception music anyway, so it was easiest for us to just have him do the ceremony music too.

This post reminded me that I have to call my former piano teacher to work out the ceremony details! He and some colleagues, including a cellist and trumpeter, will perform for the ceremony. He will perform solo during cocktails. I'm assuming it'll be jazz because that's his specialty, but he just told me that he knows exactly what to do.

I have strong opinions on DJs because I've never been to a DJed event that wasn't ear shatteringly loud. We have a live 5 piece rock band for the reception. Their repertoire doesn't include some of the songs I'd like played, including many Queen songs, so they'll play those songs from Spotify while they take breaks. Surprisingly (to me at least), the live band charges the same amount as the the lowest DJ quote I got.

This was one of my favorite things that was included with our venue. We got a choice of a violinist or guitarist (or we could upgrade to a different instrument or more musicians). We went with a guitarist. I’m super excited because I think it’ll be lovely and this probably isn’t something we would have spent money on if it weren’t included.

I knew I wanted to surprise my husband to be with a song I’d walk down the aisle to. I was thinking of finding a band or a string quartet to do an instrumental version of the song I originally chose, but decided it would probably take too many musicians to pull it off well! I ended up selecting a song that meant a lot to us in the beginning of our relationship and still does today - but did not make it as our first dance song. It was “Since I Fell For You” by Vince Guaraldi. It was perfect.

We will be using the DJ since we are going to be on a boat and the DJ is already included in the price we are paying!

That said, originally wanted a harpist but there is no way they were getting a harp on our boat, lol.
