Centerpieces sans flowers?

Pat, on October 9, 2023 at 5:58 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

When I was researching flowers for our table centerpieces I had my first minor heart attack. <G> I mean, seriously!?!? Luckily our venue coordinator kept telling me not to stress, as our reception was on an open air patio with the Gulf of Mexico right outside and no one would really notice what was on the tables. While browsing the Dollar Store I came upon these adorable signs, and built my non-floral centerpieces around it, saving me hundreds of dollars.

Sooooooooo .... who out there is NOT having flowers for their centerpieces and what are doing (or did) instead?

We didn’t have any flowers in our centerpieces. We got married in a courtyard with lots of lush greenery, so I wanted to carry that through to our reception. I had seen lots of weddings before that had a large vine of greenery down the center of the tables, and definitely did not want that. Instead, I asked our florist to create large lush centerpiece “bouquets” made of various types of greenery. And we sprinkled in various sizes of gold mercury glass candles throughout.

Candles, old books, framed pictures/paintings, little busts (like the Grecian ones), cool vintage vases/urns (check antique stores and thrift shops, also yard/garage sales), realistic faux fruit (think moody renaissance vibes), and cool lamps could all work (depending on the vibe, any combination that doesn't look cluttered should be cool)

I’m also interested in this! I’m not a huge fan of cake. What im thinking about is a small cake to cut (one layer)and people can go up and chooose between cake and pie and whatnot. Sheet cake to serve maybe. It just kills me to pay for a fake cake. But then it kills me to pay for a real huge one too! Dilemma for sure. Hope you figure it out! Keep us posted on what you decide!

We used red cedar cookie sculptures for centerpieces. They were absolutely beautiful. Guests and vendors were asking all night if they could take them home! None were left at the end of the night, but luckily our planner put one aside for us.

This was my first wedding, but we had an autumn theme, so we bought pumpkins and I attached beautiful ribbons to the stem. They worked beautifully!
