Centerpiece Style

I'm trying to make centerpieces for rectangular tables. I have this gorgeous vision in my mind using black linens, gold candlesticks, black taper candles, and these beautiful old books with handmade quotes and flowers. That all sounds nice but I feel like I regret my purchases because I just don't know how to go about decorating the length of the table. My theme is a dark romance and our colors are black, burgundy, and gold. Help!Centerpiece Style 1

Rectangle tables are a bit harder to Decorate, because you have more surface space to cover in order to make them look “full enough”. I think your decor ideas are perfect for a dark romance theme! Do some mock ups at home on a rectangle table (or if you don’t have a rectangle table, use a countertop or measure out the length of a table and use masking tape to tape it off on a floor). It helps to be able to visually see what the items will look like and be able to tweak them as needed. If you are having large candelabras, maybe that could be in the center of the table, then you could do a stacks of books on each side of it (Midway between the candelabra and the ends of the table).
Or, if you were wanting to keep the candelabra and books together in the center of the table, you could do small flower arrangements on each side. You could also use greenery, rose petals, or table runners down the center of the tables and alternate taper candles at different heights running the length of the table (you could also add in votive candles). There are tons of ways to decorate the length of the table! Look on Pinterest for inspiration and just start playing with different arrangements to see which you like best!

I think instead of 1 set of books in the middle of the rectangular table, I would do 2 sets of books positioned similarly to the flowers below, and then spread the candles to cover the length of the table.

Have you thought about maybe some kind of minimal greenery runner to help tie it all together?

Both of these are very smart ideas. If I have the budget, I suppose I can double my centerpieces/ books. That would look good. I have thought about using garland as well to add 'pops of color'!

Just came to echo the idea of some sort of runner! If you spread out your taper candles across the length of the table on some sort of runner, I think it will be perfect! But yes, also echoing the trial at home!!

Thanks! I just had a crazy idea! What about small bottles/ containers with feathered quills!? Or just big black feathers in little gold vases...?

This sounds beautiful! Be aware that flames have to be completely enclosed by glass due to fire codes and tapers don’t easily stand on their own like pillars or tea lights. You can have burgundy or black sheer fabric woven around the books and candles. Do a search on Pinterest for long tables

We were thinking black and gold battery powered tapers. Is that too tacky? We could do tall glass around them... but that seems very pricey

You can buy vases at the dollar store and donate to Goodwill or your house of worship. If you have battery lights you don’t need glass enclosures so that saves money. No one will be judging your centerpieces unless they can’t see over them or there’s no room for dishes.
