Cathedral Veil at Alter

KaiJan33, on April 6, 2019 at 12:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Question, I got my veil in today it is cathedral length. How are you planning on positioning your cathedral length veil at the alter?

I didn't know if I wanted it to go directly behind or the detail on the end of the veil to be to the side of me so it is visible.

open to all thoughts!

I just bought a 16 ft veil and I was planning to leave it stretched out down the aisle. I don’t know if I would be able to position it to the side as it is kind of wide.

My cathederal length veil will be moved in place by a member of my wedding party stretched out down the aisle. Like Chrystal. Then she'll help move it before the recessional.

Alright good to know! I guess I also should have mentioned my wedding will be outside so I would like to make sure it can blow with the wind. I also know my veil is heavier so the bottom shouldn't move!

I have a cathedral veil too and I guess I never really thought about this. I just assumed that while at the alter, my veil would be laid out directly behind me, right over my train. But I guess that may create the need for my BMs to stand too far away? When you say that yours will be stretched out down the aisle, do you mean sorta like in this picture?

I haven’t even thought about it. I’m going to have to talk to my photographer and MOH.

I mean the only other option is this way that I know of, but I definitely like the side draped way that you posted!

I like how the pictures turn out better when side draped. Smiley smile

This is something I've been constantly thinking about too! I also have a cathedral veil and wasn't sure how I want it to be either. I think I'll talk to my photographer and wedding coordinator and figure out what will work best.

Hi! Actually, no. My veil only has crystals and pearls as decoration so it will lay atop my train and go straight back like these illustrations. Althought my veil is wide, it won't be spread out as much as in these pics. I've put gathers so it has alot of fullness. If I've done it right, my side view should look similar to this photo from the SOUND OF MUSIC. I am using 108" wide pale blush tulle, but I think Maria, Julie Andrews, veil was 140 inches wide. And I'm not getting married in a cathederal with extra wide aisles. Our wedding will be outside if a warm December day and if inclement, in an indoor location that I've not even asked the size of the room!! Need to do that! Would be terrible if my veil couldnt stretch out to get the full effect. All this work I'm putting into it. 😉 I'm wearing a blusher and made it full like Princess Diana's. I'm going retro. Smiley winking You can see the fullness of Diana's as opposed to Kate's & Meghan's "drop veil." Pics arent great. Sorry! I'd deleated them from my phone. I think if you have details that you want shown, there is nothing wrong with having it off to the side. It's usually your MOH job to move your veil, or to adjust it. I've bought two gowns for bridesmaids. No idea if I'll have either, but if I do, there is room for them to just the left of me. If outside, or in a cathederal, they can stand back like in the scene from the SOUND OF MUSIC. Down here, the MOH placing the brides veil, if cathederal length, is a "too do" and guests all cran their necks to watch this take place. Hope I've helped. P.S. If you watch the Royal Weddings all of their veils, with few exceptions, also go straight back.

Right, but I think I would like it similar to this through the whole ceremony so my bridesmaids could be closer and if it blows (again I am outside) it will blow behind. I would like to face my partner, not my officiant. So I am sideways to the officiant ( I can rotate a little or turn my head) and then sideways to our friends and family. I just prefer my face to be seen and the veil to go behind my back 🙂

This is what I was thinking. I like the idea of it going down the aisle, but I don’t plan on facing the officiant the entire time...just at the beginning when I first arrive at the alter and he’s doing his welcome. Other than that, I plan on facing FH.

I see what you mean. 💕 That will be lovely. I'm a bit under the weather so I'm putting anything I misunderstood up to meds. Ha! Ha! When you said, " if it blows, it will blow behind." I thought you meant the wind! 😁 I, now, realize you meant your veil. 😂There is no hard and fast rule on where your veil is placed. Just traditionally it stays in the aisle. You will look beautiful!!! Can't wait to see all of our veils in our BAM's.

You know, it will look alot like this when you are facing your groom. I'm so sorry!! I'm a bit unwell and obviously I'm nuts to boot!! 😉 So yes, very similar to this photo.
