Catering - through your venue, or separate?

Jo, on April 17, 2018 at 8:21 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 41

Having amazing food is a top priority for many planning couples. How did you make sure you'd be happy with the meal you'd be serving to your guests? Did you choose a venue because of their reputation for great food? Or did you hire a separate caterer for your wedding meal?

It's not common in my area to have catering come with the venue unless you're paying an arm and a leg to have your wedding at a fancy casino. So separate for us!

At my venue, you choose between two exclusive caterers. Both had stellar reviews on WW and I know people that used one for the own wedding. We ended up going with the other caterer because it’s farm-to-table and seemed more out style with the types of food they offered and presentation style.

I wish our venue was all-inclusive, but our venue requires contracting with an outside caterer. At first we had booked a really well-known caterer after contacting about 10, and having tastings with 3. We booked the caterer and were so happy! Then, they went out of business a few months ago (5 months before our wedding).

Then, we booked with a caterer that we knew from personal experience. They ended up backing out two months before our wedding.

Last month we found an AMAZING silver lining. A caterer whose food blew us out of the water, and was under our budget! So win win!

We're getting married on Cinco de Mayo, so we're serving tacos and mexican-inspired hors. Can't wait!

I feel very lucky that catering is included with our venue. It makes it nice and easy for me.

Our venue has a restaurant portion that is raved about around here. We have had dinner and brunch there since we booked to get a sneak peek of the food before our tasting and they are right, it is amazing. It's farm to table so everything is locally sourced and fresh.

I was upset at first about how the venues make you either use their preferred caterers or charge you extra, but I found a venue that catering is included. I still worry about the food offered but they told me I would be invited to a tasting party in February before my wedding to taste all the food they offer before making my selections. They do it as a group so everyone for the year that is getting married does a tasting at the same time. My wedding cake is through an outside vendor but contracted through venue so I'm also doing their tasting separately.

We picked a place that was all inclusive since we are doing a DW. We went up a package to get the food options that we liked better though.

Our caterer is included in our venue. Before taking a venue tour we had eaten at the restaurant at the venue and were blown away by how good the food was. The company that owns our venue has a stellar reputation for the food they cook throughout the area and we are so excited to eat at our wedding in 31 days.

Catering is included at almost every venue in our area. We chose a venue that was at an affordable price point that we’d both attended events at so we knew the food was good. We chose to go with the more expensive option of family style through the venue, as it’s something their known for, and gave us the ability to give guests multiple options without doing a buffet(nothing against them, H and I just aren’t big fans).

I like to choose my own catering, for price purposes and because we want simple southern. Food and nothing fancy. We had found a venue we loved but because we had to use their catering we marked them off our list.

Our catering comes with our venue. We’re having the reception at a hotel/restaurant that has a good sized ballroom overlooking the lake. Food/alcohol is required through them with he only exception of cake

My venue is a restaurant so our they provide the food. Their food is amazing! Our cake is done by them too. I'm so excited to eat on my wedding day. I refuse to be that bride that doesn't get to eat, the food is way too good!

Our venue has a restaurant attached so the catering is included. I just learned at my food tasting that they have a whole different chef and team for events though. The food is amazing! I'm so excited!

Separate. A friend of mine is a chef that has been on the Food Network a couple of times. She caterers a lot of my family's events and I was so so glad that we were able to book her for our wedding. She's amazing!

I went separate because I have a lot of people coming with certain dietary requirements and the recommended one through our venue didn't accommodate everyone's needs. I found a great one in my hometown Smiley smile

Food is included with our venue and I'm so happy because it is one less thing to worry about. The chef is award-winning and the restaurant (attached to the venue) always receives stellar reviews. Our MOH and BM also got married at this venue a few years ago and we booked based on their glowing recommendation. Everyone I've talked to since booking always comments about how amazing the food is, I can't wait to try it.
