Carribbean Travel Advisory Alert Status

Cheryl, on July 3, 2019 at 3:44 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5
Hi All! I know some are currently planning destnation weddings and/or honeymoons in the Carribbean, which is super exciting, but there are currently some areas with heightened risks.

You've probably heard by now about the many cases of U.S. tourists traveling to the Caribbean only to end up victims of crime or seriously (and sometimes deathly) ill. The issues in the Dominican Republic come to mind. This isn't true of every area in the Carribean, so when planning, it may be useful to double check the safety of your destination to prepare for your trip the best way possible.

Business Insider put out an article on June 6, 2019 titled "The Risk of Traveling to Every Country in the Caribbean, according to the US State Department" that reports each travel advisory level assigned to each country or territory in the Carribean as of the date of the article, explains what the level means, gives details about issues in each particular country or territory and even tells you which areas to avoid due to reasons like increased criminal activity, for example, among others.

The article is a month old so you can go to the the U.S. Sate Department website for more up to date information.

The link to the Business Insider article can be found below.

Thank you for this information . I'm getting Married in JA I've visited the resort I'm staying at and I absolutely think the resort and area is safe but nonetheless it's important to know.

None of these are any different than they have been for the last few years. The countries on the level 2 or higher lists have been there consistently for most of the last decade (my ex-husband is military and can’t travel to certain countries because of this). It’s always important to do research but I just want to make sure people know these aren’t new heightened risks.

From someone so seasoned and up to date on your international travel risks, I'm surprised you missed this travel advisory for the DR that was issued back in April and documented in the BI article. Surely that is inside that 2 year window you mentioned. I wouldn't want anyone to get bad information.

Like I said, the article lists the levels, tells readers what they mean, and points out specific towns and neighborhoods in certain countries that are problematic. I'm sure these change from time to time so to make sure readers have the most up to date information, they may want to check the government's website.

Just meant as a friendly reminder, since some of us may either not know about it, or not think to check.
