Card Box

Imani, on June 15, 2022 at 7:04 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 50
Are you having a card box? I know some mentioned getting a box with a lock of having someone guard it. I was thinking about going with this but I’m kinda leaning towards something else. Also, the card box will be at the table right next to us instead of outside in the foyer area. Card Box 1

We got one off Etsy. It was frosted glass so people couldn't see much if they peeked inside (for some reason my husband was worried about that). I think a lock is the easiest way to go so you or a trusted family member can just keep the key in their pocket. Ours was right next to us too because we had a sweetheart table.

I like that! This is literally the same setup we’re having. Do you have the link for the frosted one?

Here's the shop with their different designs! You can customize the text and color:

Now that our wedding has passed, we'll still use the box to store all the cards and other wedding memorabilia.

We used an ornamental bird cage with a "diary lock" on it. Enough that it would be noticed if someone was messing with it, but not to detract from the look we wanted.

The mailbox is super cute! I also like the post office one too. I think that one is creative.

Are you more worried about random cards on tables "getting lost" or someone pilfering the box? Well, I think most guests will drop off their card or hand to you during the cocktail hour, just so they have their hands free. I would just ask a good friend or your coordinator to be in charge. Or you can go unattended, and simply place near your escort cards or guest book table (if having either). At one wedding, persons manned a table as guests walked into the reception area, then they took away the set-up before dinner. During the reception, you can place the box behind your sweetheart table as in Jasmine's pictures, or have someone take it away before the party starts. My planner put it in my hotel room after cocktails. I just used cut-up boxes stacked on each other, no lock.

Yes, I’m jus worried that someone could get ‘sticky fingers’ i’ve also heard that sometimes people from the venue would also take gifts from couples. I thought about having someone ‘guard’ the table, but I don’t want to take away from them being able to enjoy their night. I could also be overthinking this and the card box will actually be fine and people will have integrity to not mess with it.
I thought when they walk into the reception guest put the cards in the card box? We are having escort cards and a guestbook but the guestbook will prob take up most of the table. I think we could have it up there and like you said we can bring it inside and have it at the gift table next to us.

I got this one from Etsy with our last name on it, so I could reuse it after the wedding as I plan to put some flowers from my bouquet in it to display at home afterwards. The only way to open it is to take it apart, so it would be VERY obvious is someone was trying to snatch something from it

We had a beautiful glass box made for our cards. It will just be sitting open on a table in the reception room. We trust our guests 100% and would never invite someone who we thought would ever steal from us.

This was our card box -- I bought a basic one and redid it so that the ribbon went all the way around the top so that it wouldn't open unless you were to get the cards from the center or break the whole box.

One of the craft stores . . . maybe Hobby Lobby - though from the things I've learned about them since, I can't recommend shopping there.

I think most people are more worried about vendors' employees or randoms (if it's a hotel or whatever) than their guests, though

Most importantly! We know everyone who’s attending and I wouldn’t think they would. It’s just the venue people I’m concerned about just based on things I’ve heard.

I like the ribbon! I think having something that would require a full break in is something I’d want. Just to give me a peace of mind

I was actually at a wedding once at a lovely venue that had several ballrooms and there were 2 weddings going on that day. One of the guests from the other wedding was actually caught in the lobby holding my friends card box. Talk about brazen just came in picked up the whole dang box and walked out!

That would make sense. I guess that’s a non-issue for us because of how our reception space is laid out, but I could see where that may be a concern for others whose situation is different from ours.
