Capitalization question on invitation

Katie, on March 16, 2024 at 6:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I read somewhere that you should capitalize the day of week & month in invitation, but Minted sent me proof of mine & made them lowercase. Which do you think is more proper? Any other suggestions on if this looks good?

I don't think image is uploading. Here is verbiage:

    Friday, the fifth of July

    two thousand and twenty-four

half past five in the evening

What Minted has is correct. You capitalize the day of the week and the month, so Friday and July, but you do not capitalize the numbers. The name of the resort and location should also be capitalized because those are proper nouns.

Sorry for the confusion. That's actually copy of what I submitted. Minted updated the proof to change it to all lowercase.

I left it as all lower case though because I decided I preferred the consistency throughout. And I'm not going for super formal

Yeah, it’s not clear if the multiple additions which is which. I’ve seen all lowercase as a stylistic choice with certain fonts, just like others do all caps. I don’t like it personally, and it’s never on a formal invitation. But if you’re not being super-formal, it can be acceptable if you like that style.

Get on the phone with customer service asap and get it fixed. The location needs to be capitalized. An invitation should know this, and even a semi formal wedding invitation would have proper capitalization.

There is no consistency because the date is capitalized but the location is not. That’s a red flag and your guests will notice and be confused.

My final proof is everything all lowercase, so it's consistent (except for our names). It's actually how the original wedding invitation template was, too.

Curious, but do you have the actual address on the invitation, in addition to the name of the venue? Not that it should be published online for anyone to see. But it is an important detail because not everyone will pull up the website on their phone.
