Cape Cod Mini Moon

April, on February 28, 2018 at 9:31 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9

My fiancé and I live in CT and Cape Cod is only about a 4 hour drive. We are considering staying 2 nights but unsure where is the best place to stay? What are the best things to do there? Is it better to take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket?

Thanks!

Chatham is what I would consider to be the quintessential cape cod town. Chatham Bars Inn is super nice! Its expensive, but if its only for two nights I think it could be a nice treat! I prefer Martha's Vineyard over Nantucket, its closer, cheaper, and easier to get around.

I've been to the Cape at that time of year and there really isn't much to do. We were there for a wedding on Columbus Day weekend and there was really nowhere for us to go except restaurants. I would say go into Vermont or New Hampshire for some fall festivals or beer fests (if you are into that kind of thing). If you are just looking to hang out and see some foliage I would suggest Sugarbush Resort in Vermont - I went to a wedding there a few years ago and it is beautiful. They have hotel rooms or condos onsite if you want a little more room.

Agree on all of this -- CBI is probably the best hotel on the island (Chatham is the elbow of the Cape so it's the furthest point) and as far as the islands, I've been a Vineyarder for 20 years and wouldn't change a thing Smiley smile

I live in Newport, RI- I actually think Cape Cod, the Vineyard, and Nantucket are nice in the fall. It’s the locals favorite time of year! This fall, we had a couple of weekends where it was in the high 70s and gorgeous. The crowds are much less than the crazy summer time, so you can get into restaurants much easier and probably get a good deal on a nice place to stay. You can still get outside and go sailing or boating on a nice day too.

A ll of these little tourist communities are doing so much more to bring people to town in the off season, so you may find a good beer festival, seafood festival, or some other fun activity.

If the Chatham Bars Inn doesn’t fit your budget, look at the Chatham Inn. Super cute, very nice but more laid back bed and breakfast than CBI. The Cape is quiet in October but it can still be beautiful, you could walk around Chatham, take a walk to the beach, go to Truro vineyards. In my opinion, fall down the cape is beautiful, just not the same tourist experience
