Can't decide on a honeymoon location. Suggestions welcome.

Cathasach, on January 12, 2010 at 11:46 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 33

So the FH and I seem to be having trouble trying to decide on a honeymoon location and can't seem to find the deciding factor. We have our top choices, we're not beach people by any means and we have a decent budget provided by the future in-laws. We want to be able to book it soon while prices are low. How did you decide? Where would you recommend and why?

Just got back from our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe and I have to say that it is the most beautiful and serene place I have ever been.

OK... I have been having the same problem! Here is what I have found... Look at tripadvisor!!! The people give some INDEPTH reviews! I wanted to do a sandals SOOO bad, but I did find a few more places (don't get me wrong... I still might do sandals, but I like the idea that I have a few more options AND going to mexico is A LOT cheaper!)

    1) Excellence all inclusive

    2) Couples all inclusive

    3) El Dorado all inclusive resorts

    4) Sandals

Check them all out... and look at tripadvisor!

Tripadvisor is a great resource. If you have a decent budget, then why stay at an all-inclusive. There are so many restaurants to choose from in many locations and AI food is, well, usually mediocre. Maui is always a favorite of mine. I live in Costa Rica and there is lots to do here besides laying on a beach. Tell us a little bit about the activities that you would like to do. Would you like a destination within the US or are you open to travel abroad?

Well, we've both been to places all over the world so it's difficult to choose someplace neither one of us has been to. I've been to London but would love to go back b/c there's just so much history there and other "couple" things to do plus we are theatre people even though we already live in NYC.

Alaska is another option. He's been many times and I would love to see it someday. Glaciers and mountains and all it's beauty but the activities are limited.

Ireland is another option of ours even though I have been. We thought about renting a car and going all over b/c it's part of our heritage background and it truly is a beautiful country.

Then there's Rome, Italy simply for it's beauty and also it's history but that's another one he's been too.

We've discussed a few places in the country too like Niagara Falls but everything there just seems to be about the falls and we want more variety.

We thought about Nappa Valley but again... limited.

I guess we are just too active. LOL

Hawaii is not limited at all..im not sure which island,i think the main one has everything, night life, hiking, volcanoes, shopping..thats where were going bc ive never been and fh loves it. If you wnt to go to mexico, my parents own a condo, playa del carmen is great too..

one of the seven wonders of the world is there, theres shopping, ruins, hiking, theres waterparks, an adventure park place, and we also have access to a resort there that is by our condo.

How about exploring America by rail. If you been all over teh world you can go all over the US. We are using Amtrack to get to all the destinations on our honeymoon since I HATE flying. We are having a Baseball theme honeymoon up and down teh west coast I estimated 2 weeks since we also are trying to make at least 3 to 6 MLB games from San Diego to Seattle. We are big baseball fans tho.

You're already doing good! You know you don't want the beaches and you also have a budget to work on. Now it's for you to figure exactly what you want to do on your honeymoon - eat, drink, shop, see places or do adventure sports, etc.

Travelling East? Sri Lanka is grand. Malaysia is popular with honeymooners, too. Consider, Honk Kong & Macau if u wish. Google up and know more...

    Good luck!!!

We're stuck on a few places, too. We have a budget and the WEATHER to consider, as we're getting married in winter!!! So, Europe is out! Smiley sad

I can't find it now, but I read one bridal blog where the couple was well traveled. They decided to do a multi-country "tour." They are looking to go to a few warm places (some beaches), a few historical places (italy, etc), and then some exotic places. All in all, they are planning to honeymoon for about a month and were hitting over 10 places.

Www.amtrak.com I love going by rail. You can even get sleeping arrangments on train which includes meals. As many suggestions as we get on this site our weddings and honeymoons are still our own. You can create and book train ticket right now for trips up to early December.

My FH and I are going on a 10 day bike tour of Tuscany, Italy Smiley smile Both of us are avid cyclists and thought this would be the perfect vacation for us. Besides, by riding the bikes every day we won't feel guilty about eating a ton of spectacular Italian food everyday Smiley tongue

Our top 3 destinations are St Lucia, Riviera Maya, and the Greek Islands. I just booked a honeymoon for a couple that is starting out on the Amalfi Coast, and then headed to Santorini and Mykonos. It's a fantastic itinerary, and offers beaches, great tours, culture and history, etc.
