Canceling your wedding

How many people have decided to just cancel their wedding all together because of the pandemic making it impossible to have the wedding you want?

At this point I would love to cancel my wedding because of all the unknowns. It’s supposed to be a destination wedding in Sanibel, Florida this July —we postponed from July 2020. My mom doesn’t want us to cancel because she wants a to keep the Florida vacation that she planned and I would be “letting too many people down”. My husband wants to postpone, but I really do not want to wait another full year when we are already married and because of all the planning and stress. I know things will be a bit better, but they won’t be anywhere near normal and I just feel so awkward having people travel for my wedding. Last year our venue offered us a full refund if we cancelled, so I’m wondering if they would do the same this time around!

I’m so sorry you feel that way Angela! ❤️ Are you opposed to postponing??

And are you thinking about eloping or planning something small, or canceling all of your wedding plans? I’ve seen other couples cancel their big plans and have courthouse, backyard, and destination ceremonies instead!

Here are a few discussions you should check out from couples in similar situations:

We are thinking of just doing a small backyard wedding with our immediate families. We tried to postpone but all dates are taken for the rest of the year and even our date next year is taken plus our venue would cost us more to move it to next year. We have already been engaged for a year and a half and want to start a family. I honestly cry every day about it because it is no longer fun and exciting. I really thought all of this would be over for my wedding in May.

We feel like it’s not worth the money to just have a party and not an actual wedding. We also feel awkward asking people to travel, half the wedding party is out of state. All of this unknown is just too stressful.
