Can i Add a Leg Slit to a Multi-layered Skirt?

Mallory, on June 6, 2022 at 2:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9

I purchased this dress and then shortly after began having second thoughts. I’m unable to cancel the order and so this will be my dress. I’m am wondering if it may be possible to add a leg slit to this dress through alterations? It does have a few layers, so I am not sure if this will make it impossible.

Mallory, the dress is beautiful. I think if you add a spilt to it, it could possibly ruin it with the additional layers. The train is really nice as well! It looks really nice. 😍

FWIW, I think your dress is gorgeous as it is. If you really want to add a slit, I'd ask an alterations specialist. They may be able to take out a few layers on the skirt so it wouldn't be as much of an issue to add a slit.

The dress looks beautiful on you!! I would save the time and money (and possibly ruining your dress) and not do a slit. There really isn’t a purpose for one, as the dress has an ample skirt and is easily maneuverable in. If you put a slit in it, it will likely not even be seen; and if it is, I fear it will look more like your dress is torn than a purposeful slit.

Most certainly a very skilled seamstress who deals exclusively with Wedding downs can certainly accomplish this for you. But rather than creating a slit. Could you opt to use this as second gown for a reception? It is really lovely. If that’s not possible then customizing it the way you wish is entirely possible.

I've seen layered skirts with slits, so it can definitely be done. Like Sloane said, a skilled seamstress is important.

Hi Mallory! Your dress is beautiful, trust me, I tried it on as well! The top is beautifully structured and the bottom is so romantic and flowy with the tulle skirt, without being too over the top. In my opinion this skirt doesn’t need a slit because it has so many other things working for it.

I’d love to know if you decided to add a slit or not! I’m contemplating the same thing right now on a similar dress.
