Can anyone answer a Texas alcohol/security question?

Brittani, on October 24, 2019 at 11:35 AM Posted in Texas Planning 0 7

We are still looking at venues so I'm not sure if this would be a question for them, but so far I haven't seen "security" on any of the packages I've seen. We are looking at venues that let us bring outside catering and are considering a mobile bartender service. I've heard that if you provide alcohol at weddings you need to hire a police officer, I've also heard you don't need to hire security unless there is liquor being served and beer and wine is fine. I feel like I've googled my question more than a few ways and I can't find an answer.

Does the venue hire a security guard or do you have to do that privately?
Is one actually mandatory?

I'm not from Texas and have no knowledge on the liquor laws there, but I found this forum from 2016 where the bride was told that if you are booking a private venue and serving anything besides beer and wine, you must hire security. I would imagine this would be your responsibility, but I would check with the venues you're considering.

Hi! I'm from Texas! So if you don't serve alcohol no bartender or security is required. If alcohol of any kind is served security must be hired and a bartender as well. 1 security guard per 75 guests. Ask your venue. Ours was included with our original pricing and we are just serving beer and wine

I am a Texas bride and TABC certified. You will need a security officer if any alcohol is being served. Some venues provide it, others do not. Mine has specific off duty cops come in and I just have to pay them directly. Most require that you have a TABC licensed bartender too which is a good idea for you to eliminate liability on your end.

Texas bride as well, getting married in Grimes County.
Does anyone have advice on hiring police for security?

I have no idea who to call or what to ask for.

It depends on venue I’ve found. My venue we have to have security if any alcohol is is being served. If we have liquor we have to hire on the bartender. When your speaking with vendors just be sure to ask specifically when is an officer or bartender needed.
