Cake Stands!

Rosie, on January 12, 2022 at 12:49 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

As we approach our wedding, I am debating the merits of a cake stand.

Did you/will you use one? Did it make things harder to cut?

We are putting our cake on a wine barrel, and so it will already be at a decent height, so perhaps we don't need a stand? I'm very torn, to be honest!

If I did, this is the one I'm considering - I'm just waiting on our cake lady to tell me the dimensions of our bottom tier, to confirm it would be big enough!

I bought two cake stands from Efavormart (Black Friday sale), as I couldn’t decide which one I liked best for our wedding decor/style 😂 I decided to keep both for now, especially as the smaller one could be used for any occasion.

If it is a tiered cake, I would think that you wouldn’t want a stand as when they go top down it may make it wobble/more difficult. But your cake vendor should definitely know if it will work or not.

Ours will be set on a hutch with no stand, but our cupcakes will be on risers.

We had a cake stand. I don’t remember it being difficult to cut. I knew I didn’t want it just on the table. It was on a high top table so it was a pretty good height Cake Stands! 3

With your cake already being on a wine barrel, I don’t think a cake stand would be necessary, per se. However, that rose glass cake stand is so adorable and so very you! And it’s something you could use in the home for years to come, so it’s also a practical purchase.

I think the cake stand in that link would be perfect! It doesn't give the cake too much extra height (since it'll already be on a barrel), fits your wedding colors, and could be reused in your home after the wedding.

We didn't have a cake stand. The cake was just on the table and it looked good. Renting one cost the same as buying one and then I knew I would never need a cake stand in my life, so I just skipped it.

I have it in my mind that I really want marble accents even though they don't match our venue the best, so right now I'm looking at this cake stand and then two of each type of serving stand for cupcakes to go on. I've put off ordering them because I'm worried that one day it'll hit me that marble doesn't match anything lol.

I personally would avoid a cake stand unless it is a really low lying cake stand that is quite supportive (like the ones pictured in Samantha's comment at the top).

Your guests won't notice the extra detail and if your cake is anything beyond one tier you may find it a bit trickier to cut the cake due to the extra weight and pressure exerted on the cake stand at the side at which you are cutting the cake (unless the cake is like a sponge and super light to cut through), especially if by the point of cake cutting you think you'll be beyond tipsy Smiley smile

Oh wow, that's quite a thin stand too! That's comforting!

See, this is what I thought - and it's actually part of a set that we have glasses for, which I LOVE.

The only annoying thing is... our cake lady has said get a stand that's at least 30 cm across, and this one is 25! ARGH! The brand does have a larger one but it's ivory, not my favourite - pink Smiley sad

Me too! For like, birthdays and whatnot! plus we have some champagne and wine glasses that match which is adding to the temptation - it's only 25cm though, and I think we really need something bigger Smiley sad

These are all very sensible and good thoughts and ones I've had too!

Maybe a lower lying one, if at all? I've never cut a cake on a cake stand before, as far as I know.. but then on the other hand why do they make them if they can't be cut from there? Maybe just decorative. My brain is going around and around on this, haha! This is what happens when you suddenly have an extra six months to plan - you end up looking into a whole bunch of stuff you wouldn't have bought at all otherwise!

I think its more that big wedding cakes are too heavy for them to practically be cut atop a cake stand. Even with my Heritage cake stand (the blue version of what you looked at in pink) I sometimes have to hold it if I'm cutting through something like a tart which has a firmer base because of the pastry.

That's super fair. Maybe we'll just leave it. I get the impression that atop the barrel, they put a wooden round or SOMETHING below the cake and above the barrel, so it might be fine without a stand. It would be terrible to accidentally knock it over!
