Cabo, Cancun or Puerto Vallarta for honeymoon?!! Help!

Carlene, on May 17, 2017 at 4:19 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12

My fiance and I cannot decide on a destination! It's so hard because all 3 look like beautiful places to visit. Looking for feedback from people who have been?

So I've been to Puerto Vallarta and I've been to Playa del Carmen (about 45 min south of Cancun). I preferred Playa (we actually went back for our HM). Its a relaxed, laid back environment but it also has a really good nightlife if that's what you're into. Basically a toned down Cancun Smiley winking

My best friend/MOH were just talking about this. I couldn't envision a honeymoon in Cancun, seems way more spring breakish party scene than a honeymoon

HIGHLY recommend Riviera Maya! Its right outside of Cancun, less than 15 mins. from the airport. We had an amazing honeymoon at Secrets Silversands resort in Riviera Maya, I would highly recommend it!

There are still warnings about tourist travel to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun is very spring break. I just got back from Tulum and traveled through the whole of the Riviera Maya (Playa Del Carmen to Tulum just south of Cancun) and it is all lovely. For a more romantic vibe I would definitely recommend this area! When in doubt you can stay in Cancun and take day trips throughout the area (visiting Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Tulum, and even see Chichen Itza mayan ruins) within a two hour drive or tour group.

Not speaking from experience yet but FH and I are going to Playa Del Carmen and super excited. That said, one of BMs just got back from her honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta and LOVED it.

I've been to all three. In a highly generalized nutshell:

Cabo: Senor Frogs, Margaritaville, party time. Beaches are nice, but lots of beach vendors, Water is rough for swimming in many places. Weather almost guaranteed to be sunny (it's desert(

PV: old city, malecon, markets, churches, history. OK beaches, some swimmable with areas north like Bucerias, Sayulita being surf towns.

Cancun: large city, lots of water. swimmable, and some touristy things to do in the area, like Xel-Ha and Tulum ruins or Xcaret. Can be rainy.

Where I would go would be Cozumel or Playa Del Carmen. Swimmable beaches and nice Mexican hospitality. Very tropical and lush. Can be rainy.

Cabo. I've only been there once. It's where FH proposed and where we are getting married later this year. I loved it last year and can't wait to go back. Last year, we stayed farther away from town, between Cabo San Lucas and Cabo San Jose. It was great. The resort was quiet and kind of secluded, but they had everything we needed. We went into downtown Cabo San Lucas one day and went to the bars and a a boat ride. If you want to be able to go out shopping or explore the town more often, you can stay closer to town. Our resort for the wedding is walking distance to the marina. I've heard Cabo San Jose is a little quieter and more of an older town feel. I haven't been there, so I can't say for sure. The beaches at most of the resorts are not safe for swimming, so if that's important to you, maybe choose another place. I would choose Cabo.
