Budgeting

Hi, I’m Toya. The plan is to get married on May 1, 2022. We live in Philadelphia. The budget is 12,000 give or take 1,000. Our list is no shorter than 200 people. We’ve been together 11 years and it’s hard to leave people out. We actually had to cut about 50 to get down to 200. Do you guys have any suggestions on how we can stay within budget? Starting from the very beginning with a venue.

Hi Toya! That's going to be a tough budget for 200 people!! Just food & booze will run you $100-$200 per person, which comes out to $20,000-$40,000 just for catering (and maybe the venue included!) 💰

If you want to keep the 200 person guest list, you should think about hosting an afternoon reception or a late night dinner and drinks cocktail party. If you host your reception during a non-meal time and can just serve appetizers or dessert instead that would save a ton of money!

WeddingWire has a few really great tools you can use to help you figure your wedding budget. First you can use the Budget tool and enter your total wedding budget - our tool will automatically divide up your budget for you between the different categories. You should also play around with the Cost Guide, where you can enter your location and a wedding service (like photography) and see how much couples are spending on average:

Thank you so much Lynnie! I’ll try those out and I’m definitely not opposed to and afternoon wedding. I’ll let you know what I come up with!
