Bridesmaid Proposal and Overall Progress

Bridgette, on August 3, 2019 at 6:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
So we are ahead of schedule! I'm working on my bridesmaid proposals. I think they need a little bottle of wine. 🤔 Today, the FH and I picked out and paid for his ring in 20 minutes at our local jeweler. When the lady was ringing us up she thought I was crazy that I was buying his ring so soon. My FH is most likely going to wear it before the wedding because he's so excited. I was planning on proposing to him back because I want him to have his own moment and to feel appreciated. So far we have booked our venue, caterer, photographer, DJ, and officiant. I bought some flowers at Michael's for the bouquets and centerpieces. I need to work on them but I've been putting it off. I guess with the wedding being in October 2020 we should do our engagement session soon. I'm trying to get the bulk of the planning done before this October.
Should I start planning our engagement party and bridal shower now? Do I even do that or does someone else do that for me? What is everyone doing or not doing for those?

It's considered bad etiquette to plan/host your own engagement party and shower. FH and I didn't have a party, but some ladies from church might be planning a shower for me!

I love your BM proposal gifts - I'm sure they'll love it!

For proposal gifts I wouldnt do the box. The girls never use that stuff. I bought mine the robes and a bottle of personalized champagne each which we will use the day of the wedding when getting ready

Love your bridesmaids proposal boxes; I did something similar for my girls. I asked them at Christmas and made them "cozy nigh in" themed boxes with a monogrammed mug, fuzzy socks, and lots of their favorite goodies.

We didn't have an engagement party, so we just celebrated with a nice dinner out with our parents instead.

I know it’s exciting, but try not to do TOO much in advance. When it’s all set and done, I’m going to have about an 18 month engagement/planning period. I tried to hold back on buying things, but still bought things in advance. I’m now 2 months out and I’ve changed my mind on a few different things so now I have extras/wasted decor. I am going to try and re-sell it, but I’ll lose out on some money and it’s an extra hassle. So just don’t get too crazy with the planning yet!

I agree, a bottle of wine or mini bottle of champagne would be cute! Typically someone offers to throw your engagement party or bridal shower, so you don't do the planning. The shower wouldn't be for another year or more so I wouldn't think about that for a long while.

This is VERY group dependent. I would use the earrings, face mask, and chapstick for sure. But I most likely wouldn't use a robe unless it was a higher quality one. I'm sure she knows her group of bridesmaids and they will appreciate it.

Cute! I don't even know if I want to have both engagement party and bridal shower. My fiancé and I are both very laid back.

This has been on the back of my mind. On one hand I want to prepare when I have time and on the other hand I fear a situation similar to yours. 😕

My bridal group is diverse with their interests so this is the best option. I agree with it being very group dependent!
