Bridesmaid Alterations

kymarmck, on December 6, 2019 at 1:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I haven't seen much for bridesmaid timelines!

I was wondering when you suggested your bridesmaids have alterations done by?

All of my girls just need the dress to be hemmed so I'm thinking their alterations can be done in a couple weeks. Would that be an accurate timeline? I've seen 4 - 6 weeks but I would assume if it's only a hem that's needed it'll cut down on alteration time.

Thanks!

I didn’t give my girls any timelines. They’ve all gotten things altered before so I assumed they knew how long it would take and have it by the wedding day.

I wanted them to have their alterations done by the wedding day. Other than that, I couldn't have cared less. If they wanted to wait until 3 days before and pay a $75 rush fee, more power to ya sis.

Same as PP's. Not something you should worry about. They can get alterations done on their own timeline as long as it's done by the wedding.

Only one of my girls has experience in getting dresses altered. My other girls don't know anything about processes and were asking me about timelines Smiley smile

That's what my thought is too. As long as they're done by the wedding day. It's just that all but one of my girls have 0 experience with alterations so I wanted to get a feel for what the general length of time would be for alterations would be so they can be prepared since they've been asking Smiley smile

All but one girl knows the alteration process so they've been asking me about it to see my advice on it Smiley smile You are right though, it's not something I should have to worry about! I'm not too worried, just wanted to let them know how long, on average, alterations can take so that they can plan their appointments accordingly! Smiley smile

That makes sense. I would just tell them to call a tailor and ask. Everyone’s different and time of year can change how long it will take.

Got it, that's totally fair. I would tell them it can take a few weeks so make sure to plan accordingly and leave it at that!

I didn’t give them an alterations timeline. They knew the wedding date, the place to order their dress, and the color. I just trusted them to have their dresses in and altered on time. We had no issues.

My timeline was have alterations done by the morning of the wedding. They knew they needed their dresses to properly fit and that's all that mattered to me.

I told them to order their dresses by 3 months out but didn't give any direction on alterations, shoes, travel, etc. I figured they could handle it.

Ehh i didn't really give them timelines. my sister is very meticulous with things so she was on it right away. the other was my step daughter so i took her like 5 weeks before the wedding and hers was done in 3 days. and my best friend i asked her a few times and she hadn't done it yet but i knew she would have it done.

Similar to other comments, we had a general agreement on when the dressed would be ordered, but not so much for alterations. A simple hem can be done as quickly as same day, but likely never more than a week depending on how busy the seamstress is (are they each going to a local shop?) so suggesting having them done within the month before would give enough time to get hemmed, try on, and additional changes if needed!
