Bridal Shower

Rosanne, on April 14, 2024 at 5:50 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6
Not in the bridal party but helping the MOH to plan & pay for a bridal shower (20 guests) for my niece's wedding. The shower is being held at a restaurant's event room which has it's own small bar. I have three questions.
On the invitations under the host(s) should I add my name?
How much say do I have in planning (theme, invitations, decorations etc)? We're on a limited budget and can't afford an open bar. I'd like to provide the champagne (buy a case & when it's gone that's it). How do I word that on the invitations?

How nice you to offer to help host!

So, I've never seen a note of who's hosting on a shower invitation. I know it does happen, but I've never seen it. I would stick with the standard "You are invited....."

Love the champagne idea, and to stretch it out you could serve mimosas. Will the venue let you bring in your own alcohol? I wouldn't refer on the invitation to it at all. Of note, it's against etiquette to refer to something that's not being hosted on the invitation.

Yes I can bring my own Prosecco and will advise the MOH to leave the bar information off of the invitations. Thank you

Check with the restaurant because many jurisdictions have laws against bringing in food and beverages that are not provided by the restaurant. Either way, that doesn’t go on the invitation.

If you are helping plan, then you are a hostess. Typically the names are listed. Being a bridesmaid is irrelevant because anyone except the bride can host a shower. You communicate with the other hostesses and come to an agreement together on planning decisions.

That's funny because I've almost always seen the names of the host or hosts on shower invitations. I'm not sure what difference it would make that you are not in the wedding party unless you're referring to the fact that family members traditionally do not host. In that case, it's up to you if you want to contribute behind the scenes so to speak.

I would serve the champagne or the mimosas individually, by the glass rather than buffet style. No mention of the limit would be appropriate.

As for how much say you have, I'm not sure understand the question. You have as much say as any host.

You can add your name and offer ideas as co- host. A 12- bottle case of champagne should be enough for 20 guests; 5-6 glasses per bottle would mean 3 glasses per person, a considerable amount for a 2-3 hour event. Adding juices and non-alcoholic options provides more bevarage options as well. Enjoy the party.
