Bridal Show Scam??

Brooke, on September 20, 2018 at 1:23 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 15
I went to a bridal show about 2 weeks ago. Today I got 2 calls from a private number, I didn't answer. Then I got a voicemail from a lady telling me I attended the bridal show and I won a prize so I need to call her back. I call and she said I won a gift card for 2 wedding bands, trip for 2 to the Dominican Republic, Mexico or Bahamas, or 2 night stay to an all inclusive Wyndham Resorts, or USA giveaway for 2 anywhere in the US, plus a gift card for 2 engraved champagne glasses.... I get all that if I go to a cooking demonstration this weekend. Is this a scam? It seems too good to be true.

I would definitely say too good to be true. I would google the vendor and you should be able to find more details.

You have to go to a cooking demonstration and they try and sell you pots and pans. At the end of the demonstration they give you the vouchers for the rings and champagne flutes which you just pay shipping which is like $20. Then for the trip it’s the same thing I think from what I remember

I thought all gift cards were given in the bag you received. I still think the rings are not going to happen. If you didnot add your name to any raffles i would not even trust it.

I got calls like this that told me that I signed up at a bridal show. You have to go to a presentation for a timeshare or cookware, whatever. But I never even went to any bridal shows, much less thousands of miles from where we live (I was getting these calls from the state we were married in.) The only people who had my info was David's Bridal near where I live. Seems they sell your info to everyone.

Believe or not it's TRUE. My FH and attended 2 of these shows. No purchase necessary but we got our champagne flutes free. Kitchen Knives and 2 trips. One airfare is included we just had to pay the tax. Getting married 10/13 but going on our honeymoon in February to Dominican Republic. We had a couple choices and that's the one we choose. They are all inclusive trips. Show last around an hour and we actually love the cookware but is expensive and we chose not to buy due to wedding costs. Still won all of our prizes.

It is true stuff! But nothing is free in life, if you are willing to sit through it all, you will get some free stuff.

If you actually went to a show, it's not a scam. But the presentation isn't worth it. It's all on gift cards and you have to pay shipping so not technically free. I went to one and i wouldn't really recommend it to anyone else

Hi! So I went to a Bridal Show here in Chicago and got the same call. My FH and I both were also skeptical at first, but the presentation was only 15 minutes from our house so we were like why not. We went in knowing we didn’t have to buy anything, and that was perfectly okay. The guy wanted to to buy the cookware, but he also wasn’t pressuring us whatsoever. We were the only ones who showed up so it was more of like a Conversation than anything.

Since we were the only ones who showed up, we ended up getting a 2 night resort vacation in either Mexico or DR, 2 night hotel stay anywhere in the US, and 2 free set of wedding bands (have to pay for shipping though which was $25 per ring.) We didn’t see any harm in going, and if everything was too good to be true, then we would just pay for everything ourselves, like we originally planned.

I have included pictures of the certificates just I’m sure these will be similar to what you would get if you go. The vacations definitely aren’t 100% free because you have to pay for your travel, tips, hotel taxes and fees, and there’s a registration fee. Whenever we actually try to use these (wedding is in March) I plan on making a forum to outline everything that happened or didn’t happen on the trip. I guess we’ll be the guinea pigs 😂.

I registered for a bridal show and didn't even go, and got those calls. I feel like they call everyone so there is no way they are true.

To get the rings and trip you have to sit through a sales pitch about cookware that cost a couple thousand dollars with high interest. The trips you pay the tax. You pay shipping on the other stuff. If your good at saying no to there pitch and only get the free stuff it’s worth it.

Does anyone know how taxes work with this stuff? My fiancée and I also got a call like this. They made it clear that taxes are our responsibility, but I’m not really sure what to expect.
