Bridal Pampering Package by Mary Kay

Corinne_, on May 14, 2015 at 2:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 40

I 'won' a bridal pampering package by Mary Kay and I'm really not sure if I should go. I did some research and some people said it was a huge ripoff, other said it was fun. Do any of you have any experiences? She said I'd get a goody bag and a $25 gift certificate and anybody coming with me get a goody bag too. It's over an hour drive though.

Did you win it because you went to David's Bridal? Happened to me. Not worth it. Everyone wins and it's just to pull you in.

Scam to sell you crap. Every single person who goes to David's Bridal "wins" one of these. I've heard that the "free facial" is like, they squeeze some crap onto your hand and tell you how to rub it on your face.

I won something like this at my gym last year. I brought a couple of friends for a "free" makeover. Yeah, it was free, but there was a lot of pressure to buy the products and I ended up dropping $200. My friend was much better at just politely saying no when asked what she wanted to purchase, so as long as you know what you're getting in to, you can just have fun and get some free samples maybe. The problem now is that even a year and a half later the consultant won't stop hounding me and my friends. She even calls on holidays (Thanksgiving!) and we've all asked to be taken off of her contact lists with no luck. I'd say it's not worth it for the drive.

Scam, because I guess even after so many years Mary Kay products still can't stand up on their own and require weird sales tactics.

Someone call them and tell them its not the 70s.

It depends on the consultant. I've been to parties before where there were really pushy consultants who were 100% sales all the time, but my mom and I also hosted one as a ladies' night type of thing for one of my friends, who's a consultant and it was totally laid back. They do have a "no touch" policy, so if you're applying makeup or facials or whatever, you have to do it yourself. If you like the products or are looking for new makeup and don't mind the drive, I'd do it. Otherwise. probably not. Most consultants that do it as a business are pushy. My friend just does it on the side and buys her makeup through them and sends me an email every time she puts an order in asking me if I want anything. I like their makeup remover and the Velocity stuff that they used to sell was great.

I "won" one at a bridal show a couple weeks ago, and my dear WW ladies told me it was moreso a sales tactic to come listen to their sales pitch. I have friends who sell Mary Kay and would rather buy from them. P.S. I still get phone calls and emails once a week from the lady asking me to "claim my prize".

It sucks. It is not "pampering" at all. I "won" it at a bridal expo and I was truly disappointed.

As everyone said, everyone at bridal shows or bridal lists anywhere "wins" this package. I was once invited to get a free "Mary Kay Facial" and said sure, because the girl was a friend of a friend who said she gets credit for bringing guests. I took my grandma and we sat down with a stranger talking (all of the actual consultants went into another room and we didn't see them until the end of the 2.5 hours later) in a class room like room. There was a mirror and makeup samples on the desk tables. She showed us how to put the sample makeup on one side of our face and another color on the other side of our face. Again, we were putting this on ourselves. And then we put sample face cream on half of our faces. It was 2.5 hours and completely sucked. I imagine it will be something like that, and the goody bag will only be samples, I'm sure. I would avoid this. Especially since it's an hour away.

ETA: That's right. PurpleKitten is right. They didn't even give us samples to use. They took a full size product and came around and squirted some into a paint tray like thing for us to use. So even if we liked the color, we couldn't have a sample to take home :/

ETA Again: They also put me off because in the beginning of this meeting, the lady went over Mary Kay's speal and what they are as a company. They say that Mary Kay makes it very known to its consultants that the order of importance in their life goes: 1. God, 2. Family, 3. Work. That just turned me off and made me instantly know I've made a horrible decision...

Yea, total scam. If you aren't good with make up though, they do give you a good tutorial on getting started.

Its a total rip off!! You only get the facial on half your face and you have to do all the work. Plus listen to the sales pitch. I got the $25 gift card but had to spend $50 to use it so I passed on that part. They even pulled us to the side one by one and pressured us to start selling mary kay. Go pay for a trip to a real spa.

If you consider receiving a few samples and putting makeup on yourself pampering, then you're in luck! It's definitely not worth your hour drive to do it. Thankfully, the girl I had didn't try to sell me a million products, but it was a waste of time for me.

Don't bother. Literally EVERYONE "wins" this thing, it's not worth it. I've been to one. I promise you will regret attending.

    Pancakes, really? God, family, work?

I can tell you, the actual relatives of Mary Kay do not act in such a manner, lol.

I won one as well. I however seem to be in the minority here and did not regret going. Everything the ladies said above is true, but my rep was really laid back, and there was no pressure. I also learned some cool makeup tricks, and actually had a good time. Worth an hour drive though? No. I was lucky that the place was 10min from my house. I also had my consultant offer to do makeup at my wedding for a fraction of what other MUA's were charging with a no sales pitch promise. I did not use her only because my DH had a friend who was a MUA and we used her instead.

Yeah, I won one too from a Bridal Show, it's a scam, like everyone said, it's just to get you there to pressure you into buying things.

ETA: I 've been to David's Bridals and never won it.

It's a sales tactic. I actually like the products, and since every consultant is different, every woman's experience is going to be different. The 'facial' is really just a walk through of the cleansing and toning products they recommend for daily use. I wouldn't waste the time, frankly.

The "god family work" thing is the truth, and turns me off too.

Definitely a scam. The only way I could get my "free items" was to host a party with at least 5 people.

I went - I ended up dropping way too much money because they have some products I like, and she "packaged" them in sets. I now have things I will never use. And she won't leave me alone about coming back for a "color appointment" even though I flat our told her I wouldn't. One of my besties is a former MUA (and keeps up to date on all things makeup - it's her passion), so I am trusting her to do my makeup. She's done it before for events with and without pro photography, and no amtter what, I always look stellar in pictures. So I'm not going to go with a MK lady...even for colors.

So long story short, my advice is not to go.
