Bridal expo scam???? Help

Erica, on October 24, 2016 at 4:21 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 29

Hello everyone ! I went to a bridal expo yesterday with my FH . Last night we got a call stating that we received the grand prize which was the option of 3 packages .

1. 2 wedding rings from JVL jewelry

2. 3 day 2 night all inclusive vacation except flight to Bahamas Mexico ect

3. Us getaway to Hawaii or Atlantic city. (Same stipulations )

Anyone hear of this or of that ring company ? I want to make sure there's no catch.

We get more details tomorrow night but wondering if anyone else "won" this !

I would be careful, sounds like you will have to do something. The fact that you will get more details tomorrow states that for sure.

I will say this- DH and I sat through a cookware demonstration and got a free Bahamas stay (kind of like one of those time share presentations just to get the free stuff). As long as you don't buy into that stuff, you do get the free trip/rings.

Nope, there was no catch other than sitting through the presentation. I mean, they for sure try to sell you the pots and pans and they are stupid expensive. But we got the voucher for the trip and walked out! We have not used it yet though, so I'm not sure if there are more stipulations like black out dates or anything...

Maybe contact the coordinator of the bridal show to see if they think it's legit. Doesn't sound like it is

Everyone who attends gets the call that they're the "winner". We chose not to attend the presentation because the prizes weren't worth the the high pressured sales pitch we thought we'd experience.

I got the call that I "won". I would have had to sit through a presentation and they required FH to come with me (even though he was not at the bridal show). You can read the horror stories of the trips online and how hard it is to actually use the vouchers.

Yeah it was the cookware thing for us too. We went and got the vacation thing but the ring company is legit. I got a gift card for a free pair from another expo and we are going to get them for backup or recreational wear.

I've gotten a call like that & looked into it & mine actually seemed to be legit. But it's like a time share thing so you have to go in & sit through their 2 hour thing & give feedback

Yeah, its a scam. I went to an expo and they called with the same offer. I went to this expo in Feburary 2016 and Im still getting spam vacation calls after 8 months. Some vendors you put your phone number down at their booth sell your information to third parties. It wasnt until I openly asked a vendor at an expo who gets this information did they tell me they sell it to get more clients.

My fiancé and I did the cookeware presentation thing. It was about an hour and a half but we got a 2 night stay at one of about 20 different locations, engraved champagne flutes for $20 and some coupon deal. I just sent out for the champagne flutes and we're planning on using the trip for a weekend (or weekday, depending on the blackout dates) sometime next year. I think it was worth it but they do pressure you to buy their cookware and that's kind of a pain but we just told them 'no' very sternly haha

And you get to eat the food from the cookware demo, that's a plus.

I got the rings from JVL. Free meant we pay shipping. It wasn't alot so we did it. Rings came, seemed like they are good quality. And in the box was another coupon for 2 more free rings. We already bought ours, but these are ones we will wear out of the country for our honeymoon. They aren't anything special.

I went to it, the cookware seemed nice but it is way out of our budget for like ever in our lives lol, but we got the voucher for the trip. Basically for the free stuff you have to pay the shipping for tangible stuff and for the trip you have to pay airfare, taxes and resort fees, and transportation from the airport to the resort and back. I looked up some of the rooms, they range from 300-600/night depending on the resort you pick and if you look at the regular room rate vs the 120 day early bird booking special. They are all 4 star all inclusive wyndham resorts

I went to it and we choose to get the rings. We never ordered from them though because FH wanted something else. You don't have to buy anything to get the gifts.

    It's not a scam, it's just annoying.

We went because we travel a lot and thought getting the stateside trips would be worth it. (I think FH and GM are gonna use it for his Bach party) Also, we could use some extra wedding bands for our honeymoon.
