What stood out to you as most memorable? The guest experience, the food, the vibe? The people attending?

There are two that come to mind.

The first was a family wedding pre-COVID, with almost 300 guests. I was almost not invited because they were only inviting engaged or married couples whereas my bf (now husband) and I were only living together. But the MOG has a soft spot for me, so she pushed for me to get a B-list invite. It was black tie, but because I was invited on short notice, I didn't have time to get a long gown. Hopefully no one minded that I showed up in a cocktail dress. But besides that, I am SO glad I got invited because it was such a blast. They had an amazing live band. I enjoy the sensory overload of weddings and concerts, so singing and dancing to loud music is a big part of the appeal. They also had amazing food. The sushi buffet and hors d'ouvres were so tasty that we filled up during cocktail hour. It was wintertime, and there was snow outside, so many guests took a chance to go out on the roof for a minute and enjoy the beautiful view. They carried on past midnight, but we left before that because my husband was so tired. I was buzzed remembering the songs and the fun for days after. Also, I loved their wedding video so much that we later hired the same videographer for ours.

The other favorite wedding was last summer, my best friend from college. I wasn't a bridesmaid, but I had been on the bachelorette trip, so I knew most of the bridesmaids. Once again, the great DJ made all the difference. The bride and groom were high school sweethearts and their friends are absolute party animals, so we just went wild. After the wedding itself, a shuttle took us to the hotel where we had an after-party in our pajamas.

I always enjoy the surface aspects of weddings like the flowers, the food, the vows, and seeing what everyone is wearing. But the music is what's most important to me. Give me familiar songs that I can turn up to. I once went to a wedding where the DJ mostly played foreign club music because the couple had studied abroad together in that country. As cute as that is for the two of them, it alienates the rest of the guests.
