Best Island in Hawaii for Honeymoon?

Pirate & 60s Bride, on May 17, 2020 at 6:23 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 16

We did enjoy a mini-moon but were finally ready to take our European honeymoon... in May 2020. Smiley sad Thanks, Covid. Going to Europe in 2021 will depend on several factors. And since we may move away from the West Coast in the next two years, if there's a great deal to Hawaii, well we might be game! Years ago, I went on a Hawaiian cruise with my mom and thought I liked the big island best (geography & activities), Honolulu was fun but too crowded, Maui was ok for some reason, but am really curious about Kauai and Lanai.

We're most interested in the gorgeous tropical landscapes I've seen in pics. Activities: waterfall hikes, cave or volcano hike, ziplining, light snorkeling, a tour (coffee, history, plantation, etc), spa day, beach vow renewal. Not a lot of tourists.

Which island do you think is the best for those? What month? Any excursions you recommend? Any pros/cons to consider? Mahalo!

I suggest Kauai! Enter the lottery to hike on one of the best trail in the world —> Kalalau Trail! It’s amazing!!!! Take the helicopter ride to see Kauai, which I highly recommend! Sail to see the view of the beginning of Jurassic Park movie. Stay at least a week to enjoy. Let me check my pictures to refresh my memories, since it was 3 years ago 😅

Ooh! What a great tip! Kauai is definitely of interest so happy to read that's your vote. OMG, I'm a movie geek so seeing the beginning of the Jurassic Park movie scene location would be cool. Smiley laugh

I keep reading it's the best island for couples. I loved snorkeling there but I can't remember why I wasn't blown away by it. But we only had a day in port so maybe I just didn't have enough time.

Tee hee. It's ok, I'll take your word for it. I figured the engaged/married community here will have awesome suggestions and then I can do research on those top islands if it looks like Europe no-go/Hawaii go!

I would agree with Belle. Kauai is called the Garden Island because of its lush landscape and waterfalls. It Is everything you described and more. I second the suggestion that you take a helicopter ride over the island — it’s an experience and views like no other!

Thank you, Sharonda! I'm excited that's another vote for Kauai. I really want the lush landscapes.

I’m a poor swimmer and I felt Maui had rougher waters than Oahu so I opted out of snorkeling, but my husband had so much fun exploring underwater!

Here’s his selfie with a turtle. I was so jealous!! HahaBest Island in Hawaii for Honeymoon? 3

Is that at Little Rock? We were there too. Did you jump from a cliff too? It was super fun! We observed turtles too. Snorkeled super close to them. They were super chill. However, we do saw more turtles in kauai too, and in Kauai we saw seals too!

Regarding the surf wave, remember, Nov to Jan -> north, June to Aug -> south. Just go on the right time to the right place.
Avoid school vacations if you can.

Sorry, it’s called Black Rock. Carry a pool noodle or something to help you float if you easily get tired from keeping yourself a float. My dh under estimated the power of the ocean and used our little one’s swim ring 🤣

It was just at Kaanapali Beach in front of our hotel, we did visit Black Rock though. Smiley smile

Yeah, my husband ended up having to help an adult man back to shore because he (the other man) got carried by the strong waves and didn’t know how to swim. My husband was so tired after that, I wasn’t allowed out of his sight because he didn’t want to have to swim out to get me as well. Haha

For that trip (husband’s 30th), we just did Maui and Oahu! Oahu is my all-time favorite because I like having beach-mixed-with-city vibe... I’m from Los Angeles so it’s like home. Lol. My husband definitely likes Maui more since it’s much more relaxed and less crowded. He also thinks the beaches are better!

If you do Maui— please go to Mama’s Fish House. I sometimes randomly crave their stuffed mahi mahi. It’s sooo good!

I’m curious is anyone thinks the big island is the best to visit if you could only choose 1?
