Becoming Ordained in Maryland

Juliet, on August 4, 2020 at 6:27 PM Posted in Maryland Planning 0 2
Hi,

I am getting married summer of 2021. We have asked my uncle to officiate the wedding but I want to have all the steps and process outlined for him. I’m getting a lot of mixed information online and I’m wondering if anyone has gone through the process in Maryland recently and can give me a brief overview?

Hi Juliet! There are several registered churches that do online ordinations that your uncle can check out, including The Universal Life Church, First Nation Ministry, American Marriage Ministries, and American Fellowship Church. Once they have their license they should contact the county clerk in the county where you'll be getting married to see if they need to register with the clerk or provide any credentials! (I don't think officiants need to register in Maryland, but it's always better to double-check!)
