Hey everyone! I am at my wits end trying to figure out a ceremony spot for our wedding. For background, my fiancé and I are getting married on the beach and having our reception at the Currituck club in Corolla, NC. I have looked into many rental houses and have found that they will not allow events there if the number of people exceeds the house limit (number that it can fit to sleep). I would just like to stay at the house and have guests use pier access to the beach. No one would even be in the house. Has anyone done this before? I feel like if I hold my wedding at a public beach access I’m asking for a lot of unwelcomed people in photos/passing by. I think it would be easiest for guests to be dropped off by the trolley. Any fellow OBX lovers planning something similar?

Hi Emily! I would be careful if you decide to go the rental property route, and make sure that guests aren't coming through the house, using the bathroom there, or disturbing the neighbors. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble with your rental agreement!

For information on public beach weddings I'd recommend calling the Township to see what is required and if there are any restrictions (Currituck County 252-232-2010).
For beach weddings with over 100 guests you will need to apply for a mass gatherings permit. I found some more helpful info in this Wedding Guide:

There are restrictions on parking and décor, and amplified music can't violate the county's noise ordinance.

Thank you for the tips! With the timeline I have, there wouldn’t be any time for guests to come inside haha! I guess my fear is that it’s not acceptable for me as a renter to share the community access with my guests. Does that make sense? The beach is a public place it’s just the access points are not meant to be for everyone.
