Beach honeymoon vs city

Kenia, on September 16, 2020 at 8:51 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10
I have been all over the place with my honeymoon destination. I am interested in Italy. I thought I wanted a beach to relax by but April isn’t warm enough to go swimming and snorkeling. I am now thinking of perhaps going to Florence and find things to do there. Maybe a hotel with a pool will be enough.
Also thinking about going to South America for a beautiful warm beach in April. But I don’t want to go to a beach and end up regretting not going to Europe.
Any suggestions? And am I the only one who can’t decide????

Does the person that you're marrying get to have any input here?

What does your future spouse think? I'm not a beach person. I've always hated how it takes 5 showers to remove all the sand from my body. I prefer the mountains.
My FH and I have decided not to do Europe. I've been several times and it's too over touristy. If you have to do Europe, then I recommend Lisbon, Portugal.

He honestly doesn’t care where we go. He wants me to pick because he is good with anything. He just wants me to decide where and then we can pick what to do there.

I would definitely discuss it with your fiancé. I’m big on pro-con lists, so that would be my go to. Do some research about what kind of activities you can do in each place you’re considering and decide what is a better fit for the two of you.

I’m a little obsessed with the Italian culture but I’ve heard Portugal offers just as much at a lower cost. So definitely something to look imto

I have a need to go to Colombia lol. I can’t quite remember the name of the place, but there are islands just off of Colombia. I knew 2 people who went there last year and said it was absolutely beautiful. Fiancé and I want to go to Colombia for our honeymoon. I also dream of Italy! One day haha! I would want to go to Italy when the weather is ideal, and I think April can be still “spring cool” so personally I would do Italy late May or maybe early fall if I was to pick. I would also check closely at the restrictions for every place, and weigh out where is “safer” place to go to.

Keep us update on what you pick!

I am a beach girl... BUT, I would NEVER choose a beach over Europe.

Beaches vs. Europe is like choosing Apples over Oranges... two very different worlds / lifestyles.

Do you like lounging and snorkeling or do you like history, old buildings that could date back to the 14th century, walking on cobblestone streets, real Italian cooking (not like the US).

It's definitely something you and your FS should discuss and make sure you're on the same page.

I think it depends what you want out of the honeymoon. Do you want to relax and do nothing, drink and eat all day, or do you want to go out and sight-see and constantly be on the move, do you want to be warm or cold? FH and I have different ideas of dream vacations and interests, however when it came to honeymoon, we both agreed we didn't want to plan anything and we just wanted to be pampered the whole time, so we decided on a tropical all-inclusive. But our runner-up was a Europe trip, which would have been a lot of running around.

Go to Florence!!! It is so romantic and does indeed have Italian culture and history. It’s also a very walkable city with enough to do to keep busy for a week or more. You could also see Pisa or Siena in a day trip from Florence, so there’s another perk.

Honestly, you can take a long weekend away at the beach any time. You’re going to want to spend more time in Italy, especially with the long flight involved. Maybe don’t go the day after your wedding if you want some time to pause and recharge before exploring Italy. But really, you can take much of Italy (specific tourist attractions, like the Vatican in Rome/Vatican City, aside) at whatever pace you want... speed through a checklist of must sees or relax and wander on a whim.

    We are also conflicted!!!
We were supposed to get married in May in Jamaica, but got married in the mountains in Asheville, NC. After Jamaica we were supposed to do Europe... now we might hit the Caribbean and relax.
Check out the Mediterranean islands! We have those on our list.
