Battle of the Shapewear

I’ve procrastinated shopping for shapewear until today...and my first alterations appointment is Monday. To say it’s been an adventure would be an understatement. I’m honestly surprised no one has called mall security with all the bumping and grunting coming from my fitting room.
But anyway...do I even really need it? I have an A-line gown so it doesn’t exactly accentuate the tummy. The back is pretty low cut so it’s difficult to find anything that doesn’t come up too high. My only concern is preventing chub rub on the big day, but I’m sure that I can find some biker short style spanx that don’t make me feel like a pig in a blanket. What have you other A-line ladies done for shapewear? Is the seamstress going to think I’m nuts if I show up without any?

This will sound weird...but deodorant for your thighs. My thighs do all kinds of touching and I haven't had a problem in years!

Baby powder also works well for chaffing! If you do decide on shapewear, I think a pair of spanx shorts like you mentioned that stop at your waist would be a good idea.

I had planned on wearing something like this but ended up having to ditch it because the top came too high for the back and my dress felt better without it. I was going to get some bike short type underwear for chub rub but ran out of time. Somehow that day of all days was the one time it didnt bother me to not have anything preventing chafing!

I initially thought I would be in shapewear from the girls to my thighs but it just doesn't make sense with my corseted A-line dress. I have decided I will wear some tummy control underwear and bought a chub rub stick to apply before the ceremony. I did notice these things on Amazon that look like garters and are supposed to help with that too. I might buy those at the last minute but anything will be better than the body suit that takes 20 minutes and bad movie sound effects to get on.

I love bandalettes to avoid chafing! No spanx needed!

This! Lifesaver when wearing dresses in the summertime.
I wore an A-line ballgown and skipped the shapewear entirely. The bodice of my dress was tight enough that everything stayed in place, and the skirt was so poofy it hid everything below. I kept a stick of deodorant in my emergency kit just in case I needed to "touch-up".

I was super pro shapewear. I looked online, ordered way too many options that didn’t work FINALLY I found shapewear that I thought worked (it only went over torso from right below my chest through my hips). My seamstress however pointed out that it made my back look really fat. Apparently it makes the skin roll up. She took a photo of me with the shapewear & without & honestly the shapewear didn’t slim down the front that much, but the back looked awful. I’m going with no shapewear. I also have an Aline dress.
With that said, do with what you feel comfortable with. I’m sure that you will look beautiful.

I purchased a pair of light shaping biker shorts from Target for maybe 15 dollars. I don't think you want something that is going to be hard to get off when going to the bathroom. To add to the comment prior about skin rolling up the back.. my mom is full figured and she wore a whole spanx get up on my wedding day. I hate to say this, but I don't think she ever looked bigger than she did that day. Everything was just bubbling out of the top.

I think with an A line dress you will be fine. I would just buy white spandex biker shorts and they should be fine. You want them to be easy to get down.

I recommend getting Body Glide. It is specifically made to prevent chafing and is used by long-distance runners so it really holds up even if you sweat. Baby powder also helps but doesn't have the same longevity as Body Glide and may dissolve if you sweat.

Go to an athletic store and get some stuff to prevent chin rub. Usually you can find it where the biking stuff is. There’s a couple different options out there, but it’s generally inexpensive no matter what you choose.

Have you considered buying bandletts? They slide up on your thighs. As for your low back I have seen good reviews about the bridal bra. It is a low back full body coverage bra. So it would cover your stomach as well.
