Bangs on a (potentially) windy day

Ryanne, on July 15, 2018 at 4:48 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9
I’ve had straight-across bangs for about a decade now (think Zooey Deschanel), and I’ve faced and overcome many obstacles specifically related to them over the years. However, one issue I’ve never been able to solve is how to keep them from flying however they want in the wind. On a normal day to day basis, the front of my head can channel Phyllis Diller. Whatever. But I’ve been worrying about it when it comes to my wedding day.
My fiancé and I are having our wedding outdoors in a city that’s usually a bit breezy. I am planning on getting my hair professionally done, but I was wondering if anyone else who has usually unruly bangs has faced this problem, or what their hairstylists did to prevent it from flying. I’ve been sporadically searching for a few months now, but can’t seem to find an answer... my last resort would be to switch to side bangs closer to the wedding because I’m assuming it might be a little easier to control them. Not a big deal, but also not ideal, since my bangs for sure make me feel like me!

I had bangs for around 10 years and grew them out. I think side bangs or pinned back would be the only way. Heavy hairspray doesn’t look good on bangs Smiley atonished

Could you pin them back for the ceremony and then let them back down for the reception? I don’t know if that would work or if it would case a kink in them.

Oh boy, I can relate as I also have thick straight across bangs and have for 10+ years. I hadn't even thought of the beautiful windblown look I might have to deal with lol. Not cute for pics ugh. I'll probably just deal with it if it's windy because no way I'm pinning back my signature bangs! Maybe keep a little comb handy for pictures? Otherwise just rock the crazy bangs.

You’re probably right! It’ll just be a matter of adjusting my vision... I did have side bangs for a while before switching to straight across, so I know I like them on myself Smiley smile

I’ll have to see what the stylist can do, but maayyyybeee I could sweep them over to be side bangs for the ceremony and then switch them to my regular bangs for th ceremony. I’d even be willing to cut them myself in between, since I almost always cut my own bangs anyway! Maybe that would be too much stress. But I hadn’t even thought of switching hairstyles as a possibility before, thank you!

Windblown bangs are the worst Smiley angry I’ve had many potentially amazing pictures turned into okay pictures because of them! Yeah, the thought of not having them is like a small identity crisis hahaha, glad to know someone else understands! But I also don’t want to be worrying about my bangs the whole time. Smiley cry

Ryanne, this may be a long shot but if you get a notification about this comment I would love to know how the wedding/bangs scenario turned out! I am 4 months out from my beach wedding, and I rock a signature straight across bang. They made our engagement photos a total pain in the butt. We got really cute snuggly photos because his body could block the wind, but any that were us facing outward (ya know, the best ones where you can see both of our faces) I look like a doof with bangs straight in the air!!! Would love to hear if you found a solution... not quite sure I have the time for them to grow long enough for a side bang.... eeeeep!!!

I have bangs too and I opted to wear them back for that reason!!! I didn't want to deal with them getting out of control. But I do have a tendency to wear mine back often so i was ok with that. Unfortunately i don't think there is a good way to keep your bangs from blowing when it's windy out.

For any future brides with bangs reading this thread, I used eyelash glue. I put a line where I wanted my bangs to sit and pressed them into it. Kept them flat (with the small curve at the root) all night.
