Bamboo Plates Tacky??

Devry, on June 25, 2012 at 9:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 24

HEY!

My mother is driving me nuts when it comes to my plates! Everything is DIY in my wedding even the food/catering part for over 112 people because even doing it that way with buying all cups, plates, silverware ect. its still cheaper then catering! Anyways i found disposable bamboo plates and i think there awesome.

The theme for my wedding has kind of a spring/summery naturey outdoors thing going on with the colors i chose and the centerpieces and even the twin i used to wrap my favors. Im even getting married outside surround by trees LITERALLY and a lake background.

Mother is freaking over the plates because she thinks its tacky, i think it goes well with the theme and is different. LIKE US!!! what do you think?

I think bamboo plates sound really nice. I was at my FH's brother's wedding a couple weeks ago, and they just had clear plastic plates, plastic cups, and plastic silverwear, but it was great! No one will care about the plates, trust me

I think it sounds cool and appropriate for your theme. Some people are so set in tradition that they can't think outside the box.

Thats awesome Donna! see i really like it! and i got the reflective heavy silverware to go with it but according to my mom she feels if i have those plates then i might as well have a "hill-billy" wedding. FRUSTRATING because its soo cute and kind of original.

With all do respect---pay your mom no mind. lol You don't need an ultra-formal setting at a casual-chic event. She'll see she was wrong when the compliments start pouring in.

Bamboo plates are nice, but, I hate disposables. No matter how you dispose of them, they are trash.

I am a fan of glass and washing. Rent, rent. I rented plates and silverware for my daughters bridal shower as well as events for my company. .40 cents each....money well spent.

The photo is from an event at our office, that I planned.

I think it sounds like it fits perfectly. Some people are kind of material snobs pardon me saying. No one will really care what the plates are made of, and if they do they're probably really into place settings and would have found something to say even if you had rented plates. It sounds like your mom just has different tastes. Go for what you want if she's not going to be paying for it.

Technically my father is paying for the wedding but hes my step-dad and him and my mom have been married for 12 years...and separated for 12 years they just never got a divorce lol (perfect marriage as they like to call it) -basically saying my mom really doesn't have any ties to the funds for this wedding-. My dad has told me since day one its my day and i need to do what i want and like because he doesn't want me to look back and regret or resent decisions i made or the people who swayed me to make those decisions. I want my mom to be pleased though to and I'm worried that shill just hate it and make comments the whole time and TO EVERYONE she talks to at the wedding and i don't want the day to be ruined over plates. but i think ill take everyone's advice and just go for what i want and pray that shill mind her P's and Q's that day. THANKS EVERYONE! : )

Seriously, do what you want! Im having a few friends cater my wedding and its WAY cheaper! I think it ends up being MAYBE $7/Per guest! I just bought all my paper plates AND the reflective plastic silverware! You can make it look nice and no one will care! Plus less clean up for you! Our rental co. wanted us to wash all the dishes we use before we return them, NO THANK YOU! Paper it is!

If she spends her energy badmouthing you instead of enjoying her daughter's love celebration, I think the problem is bigger than plates. lol And still, not your problem.

I'd like to see something recyclable (assuming those aren't), but those are nice, and fitting with your theme. The other concern MIGHT be if you're having a buffet will they stand up to carrying them around, overloaded with food.

I think its your wedding and if she isnt paying its no big deal. I say set up a setting and show it to her to prove to her that it can be pretty.

Ive seen the napkins folded into pockets with the silverware in it, I think thatd be really cute!!

I love the idea of bamboo plates... I might have to steal it. Also love those wooden silverware sets that MS P posted.
