Bali or Cruise? (week long)

Terran, on October 2, 2019 at 5:26 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 28

Bali would be a little less money and one of my dream places to go. BUT I've never been on a cruise (the FH has). I just would love to be able to have beautiful room and pool to ourselves in Bali. Plus I'm scared of boats so that's a downside to the cruise is my anxiety would be skyrocketing. Anyone ever been to Bali? Is it as beautiful and fun as it looks on Instagram and Facebook? Or have you had the best time of your life on a cruise?

I love cruises; went on one for my bach party this past August but I didn’t want to do one for our honeymoon. It’s too much running around if you do one that stops at numerous islands. We are doing Sandals Jamaica 2 months after our wedding.

my friend got married this April & went to Bali for his honeymoon he liked it but the long travel kind of wore him out. His pictures were gorgeous though!

I would definitely chose Bali. The only downside is the long travel for 1 week.

You should totally go to Bali!!! I've never been but I just know it rocks lol. We're not cruise lovers at all. We're swimmers so we prefer straight access to the beach at any time. The ships we've been on didn't have a good sized pool anddddd we took a family cruise once so that meant allllllll the kids in the hot tub. I think they thought it was the kids pool, that's how small it was lol. We still enjoyed ourselves just not our first pick. You can take a cruise literally any time but you'll only honeymoon once! Bali for sure!!!

I agree with Bali! Plus, since you've never been on a cruise before, there's a possibility you'll get seasick and not be able to enjoy yourself

We are going to Bali!! We leave on Tuesday 10/8!! Cruises don’t interest me in the slightest. I don’t like touristy things and a cruise just seems like one big flock of tourists with you everywhere. Not my idea of fun at all!

I’ve been to Bali but I went there by myself a few years back. There’s so much things to do and places to see. If you like surfing I think you’ll enjoy catching some waves there. Food and accomodation will be cheaper too compared to the cruise. For our honeymoon we’re actually thinking of going to a cruise since FH and I both never experienced it and my future in laws were raving about it. But after reading this thread I think we’ll just go to Japan or Korea since we can always go for a cruise whenever.

I’ve been on a ton of cruises, and I love them. But if I had the option of going to Bali for a honeymoon, that would absolutely be my choice. How often does that opportunity come up? At least for me, not often. And if you don’t like boats, why would you consider a cruise? Even though I think they’re great, and you can totally have a relaxing, romantic time on one, they are not for everyone.

The fact that I live in Florida and my whole career is based on tourists, this is what won me over because I'd like to be a tourist, without other tourists all around me. Let me know how your Bali experience goes! It's one of the most beautiful, budget friendly places I think I've seen. That's the reason I would love to visit so much. Even though we told ourselves we would take a few of our friends with one day to have a crew go out and adventure. Maybe we could still do that with our honeymoon. Just different rooms and a couple days to ourselves. I think it'd be one of the coolest experiences.

That was one of my fears, even though I grew up on boats, I'm still not the biggest fan. Only been sick "sick" once. Just gave me a migraine. My only thing is I don't trust floating things on water to sleep on lol.

Bali should be the winner because the opportunity to go somewhere far and exotic is there! I know I would pick Bali if I was given the choice but here was my experience.

We went to Bali for a week for our 1 year anniversary in June of this year and it was brutal! It was on top of my bucket list and we had the opportunity. Pictures are beautiful and seriously worth it but travel there WILL jet lag you, it took us 2 days to get used to it and even then we were tired by 6 or 7pm. BY the time we got over the jet lag, it was time to go because 1 week was not enough. Travel inside of Bali is also long, to get to all the beautiful places that you see on instagram its an entire day trip if you plan on staying in the popular locations such as Ubud or Seminyak. For example, we wanted to go to Heavens Doors, it was a 2 (or 3 cant remember) hour drive from Ubud. Lines are long to take as many pictures as you can in 1 minute. We went hiking to the volcano and had to wake up at 2am, and the hike is not for the weak (like us). After the hike we went to a hot spring nearby but we were so tired from the hike we wanted to go home to sleep like at 10am. Ubud center is very nice but stores close at 8 or 9 by the time we got back from the day trips, we only had like 1 hour or 30 minutes to shop as much as we could before the stores closed. Going to the beach was not as amazing as we thought either (Seminyak) and since we were only there for a week we couldn't travel to Lombok or any other island. Traveling within the city requires you hire a driver for the day. There are no Ubers and you cant walk anywhere (unless you like to walk long distances). I don't want to be a Debbie downer but I wish someone had told me to go to Bali longer than a week because of the jet lag. We stayed half of the time at the Indigo Hotel in Seminyak and it was AMAZING, private villa with floating breakfast but we were asleep for most of it! Haha. The second half we spent in Ubud at an airbnb where we had our private Villa. Its called Bennu House, super serene, we thought we would spent some quiet time just lounging around but we didn't, we were traveling for half of the trip to get to the instagram worthy places. In fact, if you have Airbnb, check out the Airbnb experiences, thats where we booked most of our trips that included the driver for the day.

It all depends on the vibe you want for your honeymoon and also how bad you want to go to Bali, we decided to go because we just couldn't think of a better time to go so far!!! We are planning on having kids after our ceremony so we said, what are the placed we would enjoy going to without kids haha, Bali won. Cruise is something you can do whenever and you will get to relax. Traveling to Europe seems so easy compared to Indonesia as well. We are going to Turkey for our honeymoon, not your typical honeymoon but we can go to a relaxing beach any time. Cancun is BEAUTIFUL, and super cheap. Playa Del Carmen and Tulum! Amazing. We don't travel twice to the same place but I wouldn't mind honeymooning there.

    Good luck and congratulations!!!!

Laura, thank you so much for this! It really puts a lot to consider in traveling to Bali. Might need to stay a few days longer than we expected to. We just think we're young and can handle jet lag, but I know for a fact the FH can't because he sleeps more than the average grandpa and he's never traveled into a different timezone. But hey, I might have to look into Cancun too. Also seeing things about Jamaica and now I'm interested in going there. We have a while to plan but I just want the honeymoon to be the most memorable trip we'll ever have. Also the most adventurous. I want to be able to tell our kids super cool stories about it one day. Again, thanks again for the input!
