Bad Luck Start Time. Anyone else ever heard this?

Reading the thread about start times got me thinking about this. I've always heard that it's bad luck to start your wedding ceremony on the hour. Instead it should be started on the half hour. The explanation I always hear is because the minute hand on the clock will be traveling upward rather than down. Has anyone else heard of this? Maybe it's a regional or southern thing?

BTW, I'm in no way implying that you will actually have bad luck if your wedding starts on the hour. I think it's interesting to see varying wedding traditions.

My grandmother insisted on this. Hence why my wedding is scheduled for 6:30.

My ceremonies are fairly evenly split between the hour and the half-hour. No couple has ever mentioned this concern to me.

Never heard of that. I picked my time because that's the latest the church allows on Saturday.

I haven't heard of this. I love hearing the different myths/superstitions. The latest I heard, is to not wear pearls on your wedding because it represents future tears and heartache.

Never heard of that. For me it would definitely fall squarely in the "things not worth giving a fuck about" category, though of course if you think somebody in your family might freak out, it's up to you how much weight to give it.

Never heard of it. My wedding is starting whenever I can start using the venue. I got through Friday the 13th fine, so I am sure everyone starting on the hour will be fine as well.

I'm not superstitious and I have never heard this. But we are getting married at 6:30 just because that was what worked out for our timing!

My friend got married last year on Friday the 13th at 4:00 and they are very happy! Lol no I have never heard of that old wives tale and my ceremony will be starting at 4:00.

I've heard it. But our wedding starting on the half hour had nothing to do with it, we've gotta be out around 4:30, so we pushed our wedding back 1/2 hour to make it more doable.
