I have seen quite a few legacy posts floating around about those with bad hand-writing (like myself) who don't have the budget to hire a calligrapher or don't want to get them printed.
What I did was use my laptop screen as a sort of "light table" to trace the wording. I did need to go into my Display settings to crank up the brightness first, but it worked great for my escort cards.
The actual place cards I have are not see-through unfortunately, so for those I simply put the escort card beneath where I needed to write as a reference, wrote it with pencil first (so I could erase if needed) and then went over it with marker.
