Are Flowers a Requirement?

Mrs. Spring, on February 21, 2021 at 11:35 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 40
Does a bride really have to carry a bouquet?! I'm not a flower person and I just feel so wastedul buying a bouquet of flowers when they'll die in 3 to 14 days.

What are your thoughts? Does it look odd if a bride doesn't have a bouquet?

Will you have somebody(ies) escorting you down the aisle? If so, I don’t think people would even notice whether you were carrying a bouquet or not, since one (or both) of your arms would be occupied.

The only requirements are two consenting adults, an officiant (in most states,) and a marriage license. If you don’t want a bouquet, skip it.

I think you and your bridesmaids can carry just about anything really! I'm not too keen on real flowers, I'd rather do a broach bouquet for myself and have my bridesmaids carry lanterns. It's sentimental to me so I think that's more important than just doing the norm.
I've seen stoles being carried for winter weddings.Feathers.
Dreamcatchers.I even saw a bride and her bridesmaids each carry a puppy down the aisle! They were all up for adoption so her guests could leave with an extra awesome favor lol!You can even do something unique for the boutineers too! I saw superhero action figures on pinterest lol. Do you!!

I don’t think you have to carry a traditional bouquet (or anything) if you don’t want to. Most times, it’s just something to hold and occupy your hands while you are walking down the aisle. I’ve seen brides carry things other than a typical floral bouquet ... like a brooch bouquet or an embellished fan with feathers and rhinestones. Both different and very pretty. I found these on Etsy.

Nope and I honestly don’t think I would even notice lol my SIL walked down the aisle without her custom - expensive waste of a bouquet because she forgot it in the back room, but nobody noticed until the mother said something because she spent $250 on it...

Until airlines started moving flowers to all markets much of this country and Canada had no flowers for weddings 4-6 months of the year. People have carried religious books, things of value, and pretty tings, bundles of hand made fine lace and ribbons with little precious things or good luck pieces. My family til the past 3 generations comes from the Arctic. I carried a beautifully beaded sealskin bag the size of a large paperback, from the late 1800's in Finland, with personal mementos, and a few family things I carried for the occasion. My great great grandfather carved his proposal with letters and little pictures, into the mother of Pearl of a shell, in an ivory box. She carried it while he was at sea for 4 months. A lot of young men never returned, dying before they had much experience. My grandmother
got it as a gift on her wedding day from her grandmother, and now it is mine. Plus, I carried 2 carved charms, one from when I was little, and one that had been a recent gift.
My MOH carried hand made Irish lace with crystal flowers, and some hand blown glass ones, in a hand made basket. Inherited. Pick something precious, or nothing at all. Men get down the aisle with nothing.

You can do fake flowers. My bouquet is made of silk flowers.

But to answer your question you don't need to have flowers at all. There's many other great beautiful options out there.

Nothing for a wedding is mandatory or a requirement (besides the legal parts). So you absolutely do not have to carry a bouquet.
