Are Balloons Cheesy?

Gabrielle, on October 8, 2019 at 10:43 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

Okay, so my mom and dad got married in the early 90's and ivory and forest green balloon arches everywhere - not what I am going for.

I want simple WHITE balloons. LARGE balloons hanging from the ceiling, maybe some smaller ones scattered around by the gift table... What is everyone's take on balloons?

A friend of mine had balloons and it looked very nice! Added a little interest to the room since her décor was minimal.

I think that they can be used well in weddings, it's just difficult. There's definitely a fine line between elegant and cheesy.

It's a fine line. Those HUGE balloons with the greenery hanging from them can be classy! But I think random balloons scattered around could just be a cheap way of decorating. Sorry I'm not much help!

I agree, fine line. Personally, I don’t like balloons but they have the potential to make or break the decor. It’s possible that a balloon arch may look better opposed to hanging balloons depending on the style and feel of the wedding. Our venue doesn’t allow balloons so, definitely check if that’s a restriction (I’m sure you have). But, it’s almost like Make-up: less is more. The more you have, the more noticeable and graceless it MAY look. The less you have and the more regal it looks, the beautiful it will be.

I'm not a fan of balloons at weddings, but it's not my wedding. If you like them and think you can put them up in a way that looks great to you, then go for it.

I really like how these look, they aren't my personal style for my dream wedding but they are super nice!

I agree! I am wanting a minimalist decor style. I'm not trying to have balloon walls and arches and swags around every doorway,

YES that is the style I am going for! My venue is kind of indoor/outdoor and very airy. Love the big ballons! Maybe just over the dance floor...? That could be nice.

Awesome! So glad I could help!! I love the look of that as well. I think it would be amazing to have them all over the dance floor! It'd make GREAT pictures!

I think decorative balloons are making a classy cool comeback! I think the line is crossed into looking cheesy when it’s not professionally done, well at least that’s my opinion. Some of these designs out here are jaw dropping and gorgeous!

I've seen them done and look really classy. I'd look at Pinterest and see what looks good vs. what doesn't.

I agree! There is a local event company who does them that I would be going through!

Agreed with the previous posters that the line is thin between elegant and cheesy, I plant on having a balloon walk to cover up a mural at my venue. Similar to picture but with my colors 😁
