Anyone NOT doing false eyelashes?

Iris, on October 26, 2012 at 12:53 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 39

I know it's all the hype right now, the sex appeal, "it makes your eyes pop". But here's my opinion: When I do my makeup everyday (& my trial runs for DIY) I already focus on making my eyes pop & so far I've always gotten high compliments. I work well with mauve colors to give me that pop but natural at the same time. Not trying to look like a sex kitten, esp for my wedding day. JMO I want to look beautiful but naturally me, & I feel like false eyelashes on top of heavier application, would be too dramatic.

I get they stick out more in photos, but to me the point of self-photos for wedding, is to capture ALL of me, not just my popping eyes.

All my opinions combined, I wont be doing false eyelashes, I feel it's not necessary if I can achieve the look I'm going for. w/o them.

Anyone else with me or am I the only one?

PS my lashes arent THAT long but they're not short either.

Do what you like. I wore falsies but I really didn't care either way.

BTW, kudos to anyone out there who does/will use them. Some girls have really short lashes or want that dramatic look. I'm just sharing why I wont be using them & why I dont understand why the hype is to look more sexy less natural

I felt the same as you for awhile, and I tried lots of different false lashes and I hated them all. They looked great for going out on the town but it wasn't the look I wanted for my garden wedding. But I couldn't deny that photos really did look better with them on. Finally I went to MAC (the first MAC store I went to was not helpful, they just pushed lashes I already knew I hated on me, telling me that I needed a dramatic look for my wedding). But the second MAC store was way better, and they found me perfectly subtle lashes that gave me a pop but still looked natural and like myself. I really feel I got the best of both worlds! But if I hadn't found those lashes, I would have just gone all natural with great mascara. Whatever your preference, it's your face and your photos after all!

My lashes are short (less than 1/4") and very light. I need something to play up my eyes and don't like a real "heavy-handed" look of dark colors. I tend to go with naturals/browns to go with my blue eyes w/ blue liner. I want my lashes to look full and long, not vampish. I am experimenting now with falsies.

I have never worn them and did not for the wedding. I think it would have irritated my eyes because I have very sensitive skin/allergies plus I wanted to have a more natural look and not look like I am covered in make-up when I usually don't wear much.

I never wore any but I was thinking about trying them just to see how I look.

My maid of honor went through beauty school, so she is also my hair stylist and makeup artist. She is pushing for false lashes, but I think I am going to pass on them. She's going to show me some "subtle" ones. So... we'll see.

My photographer basically insisted I wear them, haha. I think that especially where I had to wear my glasses all day (took them off for some photos) it definitely added that extra oomph for my eyes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with not wearing them, if she hadn't brought it up, I probably wouldn't have bothered. I felt kind of clown like when I looked in the mirror after my friend/hairstylist did my make up, but everyone else said no, and the photos turned out great!

Basically, my advice, do you, whatever that may be.

I am not wearing them. My eyelashes are naturally curly and wearing fake ones looks really fake on me.

Polka: I feel you on the glasses lol. My normal wear is contacts, but for the time being (til I can afford them again) I'm wearing my glasses & the reflection does take away from my makeup. But w/o glasses, people always tell me my eyes "captivate" I've gotten that one time lol. B/c I already focus on making them pop I feel wrong w/ the thought of fake eyelashes. I might just try it out of curiosity anyway...

I won't because I was blessed with long full lashes that people often think are fake! But I do see the appeal for those with short or light lashes. I remeber hearing there are two things with makeup that will always make you look good, mascara and blush! So it makes sense to me! But it really comes down to what you are comfortable with!

Lol! i gave it a shot on my wedding day, before I got to the door I ordered my MUA to get them off! too uncomfortable...and to think it took 2 MUA's to attempt to make it stay! *sigh* my left eye was just not having it, so we took them all off

I didn't wear *any* makeup for the wedding. I never do, and really just wanted to look like me (in a big poofy dress) so I skipped it. Since I have no idea how good I might have looked, I have no regrets when I look at my pictures. If you like how you do your makeup without them, skip them.

I did not wear them. I wanted a more natural look, and I've never worn them before. Honestly I didn't even think about trying them.

I haven't decided yet. I bought some fake ones to use for our Halloween party to see if I like them. If not I can live without on our wedding day. My lashes are already long, but they aren't super full and no matter what make-up I put on my eyes, they disappear when I smile, so I'm open for anything that can make them stand out more.

I'm also leaning towards not wearing them. I have naturally long lashes and honestly, don't really need them. Or at least I don't feel like I do. I've actually been asked if I'm wearing false lashes when I have only mascara on.

Unless at my trial my MUA puts them on me and I LOVE them, I'm going to pass on them.

I don't know if I will. I have allergies and not sure putting those on my lashes are a good idea..lol..the last thing I need is red puffy eyes the day of my wedding.

Not wearing them and I didn't make the decision...my FH did. He wants me as natural as possible and while he isn't thrilled that I'm wearing makeup, he understands it's a special day. His opinion matters most to me so he had a say so in my hair and makeup...but not in my dress! Lol

Not wearing them myself - I have problem with eye make up in general. Can't put anything too close to my eye or it waters like crazy.

Not wearing them. Didn't wear them for the first wedding and I looked great. I tried experimenting with falsies, but I can't stand the way they look and feel on me. A good mascara is all I need.
