Anyone not doing an outside the us honeymoon because they are worried about mandatory quarantine?

This is the exact reason we are staying in the US. We didn’t think it was worth the cost or aggravation of the whole not knowing. We are flying into Florida and renting a car and hopping around and eventually ending up in the keys for a few days then back up the coast. We have been to the keys before and I will tell you it is 100% worth it. I’ve been cruising in the Caribbean and still never seen water as beautiful as the keys. Plus in case someone does get sick you don’t have to worry about being in a different country and hospital outside the US and trying to get home. I say go for it

Where did you stay in the keys?

I'd love to stay at Playa Largo, but it's so much money. Plus tack on extras for sailing or snorkeling which would normally be included with a different resort. I don't even know if food is included. I just get incredibly depressed thinking about it. The one chance in my adult life to use my passport before kids, and ... yeah.

were you able to drink on the beach by your hotel? Could you order drinks and sit on the beach?

I'm worried it's not going to have the same "honeymoon feel" that a carribbean resort would have.

I wouldnt go overseas for this reason and because it can be difficult to get a commercial flight back if the status of that country changes and travel restrictions change. I know people who were having an incredibly hard time getting a flight from Germany when theirs was cancelled.

View Quoted Comment When we went a couple years ago for a long weekend we flew into Fort Lauderdale and drove down to key west and stopped along the way. There were plenty of places that had beach front seating or just beaches right off the road. Generally the keys aren’t known for beaches but the ones they do have are pretty amazing. We stayed at a hotel in Stock Island which is the key next to key west. The Perry Hotel. It’s on a marina not necessarily beach front but the beaches are very close and most places have shuttles into key west of you’re going all the way down. I joined a Florida keys forum on FB and they have so much info and places we missed the last time! We are super excited to go this time. We are flying into Orlando this time and driving all over since we really love road trips and not being stuck at one place the entire time

We are staying in the US. The last thing we need is to test positive outside of the US and then not be able to get back home. Because we’re not leaving the US we’re doing 10 days vaca orlando in September and then 10 days vaca in November the keys

The exact reason we decided to stay in the US. Who knows what Covid will be like, and I’d rather not risk it. Ideally we were going to go to Paris, but it’s just too stressful to think about if the world doesn’t go back to normal soon. We decided on going to Southern California instead and don’t plan on spending more than 3k. Once the world opens up some more in the future , then I’d spend a ton of money on a trip. I totally get not wanting to spend 7-8k on a US honeymoon so maybe just do something smaller for now and then take a big trip on your one year anniversary ?

Extremely not likely to happen at the one year point. We will (hopefully) have a newborn, so unfortunately, that won't be happening.

Perhaps once your baby is old enough that grandparents can babysit, you guys can make time for yourselves ? I get it, this totally sucks. We just gotta find a way to make the best of it ! While it’s not ideal, there are tons of beautiful places in the US, and either way you’ll get to spend time with your new husband and celebrate your marriage ! It’ll all work out in the end 🥰

I love to travel. i travel 1-2 times a year and if i do domestic then usually two trips but most of the time i like long 2 week international trips. anyway this year i opted to not do any international trips because of the idea of that! i don't really feel reassured about travelling international yet. i had to travel twice last year as a bridesmaid and so i actually self quarantined myself after each trip just to be safe. my state requires anyone coming in to quarantine for 10 days unless you're there for some work essential thing i don't know. not sure if that quarantine requirement will stay in place for the remainder of the year but i do intend on going on a domestic trip at the end of May and STILL quarantining myself regardless just to play it safe.

You could always do a mini-moon now and a bigger honeymoon on your 1 year anniversary.


We were finally going to go to Europe for our delayed honeymoon in 2020... that obviously didn’t work out. With the resurgence of Covid in Europe, we’re ruling it out for 2021/2022. We’ll stay in US for trips.

I'm hopefully not going to go anywhere on our first year anniversary because I will be pregnant or with a newborn. We wanted kids right after the wedding so like I said previously this virus screwed everything up. If we don't get our honeymoon now that's it, it's not happening. It won't be the same 2-5 years from now when our lives are even more complicated. That's why I'm so distraught over this.

I think it will be. I'm sure it will be very relaxing, which is exactly what we both desperately need after this heinous year.

We just aren't honeymooning, period, until we can travel freely without concerns about Covid. I did envision an international honeymoon, so I feel like any trips we do before then won't be our honeymoon. I will consider traveling again when the great majority of Americans and wherever I am traveling to have been vaccinated, and would be more apt to travel if vaccinations were required to fly. Until then we're likely to do mini-vacations or road-trips instead.

Are you ok with starting a family before having the honeymoon though? I know you had previously indicated in a different forum that you really wanted the big reception/ honeymoon before kids, right? That was something that I personally really struggled with.

We’re staying in the country not for fear of getting stuck though. We still have to select a new honeymoon after postponing the wedding a year. We had a 14-day Caribbean cruise planned. But canceled it last year. Now we’re going to skip a cruise and do something within the US. Additionally FH and I both begin the same Ph.D program in May. So we’re going to stay within the county now and shorten the trip to a week.

We would love to honeymoon before kids but I feel like having a baby is a bigger priority for us. We are hoping we can do our wedding celebration this year (before having a baby), and it would be great if vaccines made international travel an option later this year, but who knows. I'm also okay with having a "honeymoon" a few years after baby if that is what happens. I definitely want to do a big "just the two of us" trip to celebrate our marriage at some point!

We just booked at Excellence in the Dominican and if we test positive, they will cover the full cost of 14 days in a quarantine room. Most resorts are offering something similar so maybe look outside of Sandals? I agree that $200 per night per person probably wouldn't be enough to sway me, Sandals is expensive. The worst part would be having to use the extra PTO from work, but I imagine my boss would use my sick time in this scenario. That said, I'm fully vaccinated and my FH will hopefully be as well by the fall so that makes me feel much better. It also makes me feel better knowing that since we are vaccinated, if we do contract covid, it shouldn't require medical care beyond OTC meds.

We’re in the same boat as well. After roughly costing out a honeymoon outside of the U.S.A. it is quite scary to spend all of that money, and then be unfortunate enough to get stuck outside of the country if one of us got sick. I think we will just have to do something either locally, in Texas and perhaps next year book a real romantic and exotic honeymoon.
