Anyone make their own card box?

Ashley, on September 25, 2019 at 11:13 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 29

I am just not seeing any I like that do not cost more than $50 so I am thinking of making my own unless anyone has a lead on a good cheap option.

I like the look of the photo frame card boxes, but it seems to be not that easy to do.

What about something like this that I decorate myself: https://www.michaels.com/artminds-paper-mache-large-round-box-set/10999216.html

What would you decorate it with?

I still have a year so I am in the try all the things to see what works mode

I'd add a cute little bunting banner that says cards

We bought a paper mache post box (letter box) in the style of the post boxes we have here in the UK and plan to cover it with book pages to reflect our book themed wedding. I was thinking of getting a book of love letters and using that 😊

What is your theme and colors? I would start with that and find a way to tie this in.

I think the boxes from Michaels are really cute I used those for my bridesmaid proposal boxes, I kept it that color and added a sparkle ring cutout to it. You could paint it or wrap it with paper to match your wedding. If you want it sparkly you could add rhinestones to it or something like that!

I thought of that, but feel that the way it looked in person it would need painted or covered.

    Burgundy/white/blush

Theme is more romance and love (some 90s thrown in) most of our signs will be in either white frames or will be chalkboards we haven't decided quite yet.

I am making mine, I haven't started it yet. I just got a basic white box with a lid from Michaels and some Wedding related scrapbooking supplies for it. It's going to be silver, white, with hints of black. All in it'll only be costing me about 15 bucks

I didn't either until I was walking around Michael's lost LOL I had picked up the box and it was in my cart, and I was trying to decide what to do. I was thinking ribbon, but I saw a woman go by with a cart full of scrapbooking stuff and I went over and found all sorts of stuff

We bought this at Hobby Lobby recently and will be dressing it up a bit. It's $25 without coupons, but they usually have a 40% off coupon running. I think we ended up getting it in-store for $13!

Ikea also has cute, inexpensive boxes that you can dress up.

I did ours with the stacked paper mache boxes, covered them with wrapping paper that fit our theme.

I made ours out a mailbox ($25 for a new one at Home Depot or you can use an old one).. I repainted to match our colors and used our Cricut to personalize it. My FH LOVES to get the mail, haha, so I found it fitting for him to have a whole mailbox full of cards to open the day after the wedding.

Not sure what your look is, but there are alot of choices on Etsy. They are as low as $10. Also hobby lobby has some too. Best of luck!

I agree with all of the PPs. But one other place I've been seeing them lately is on Facebook Marketplace.

After the wedding, a lot of couples don't care to keep the box, and will resell it. Every area is different, but it's a definite place to look for a box that is discounted. Then you can dress it up any way you like.

The not wanting to keep it was why I was leaning towards making something but I guess it would be cardboard either way so I’ll keep looking

$5 (maybe less) photo/paper mache box from dollar general. Velcro’d The lid on and cut a hole in the top. I didn’t get to the sign for it and everyone still knew it was for their card. It wasn’t fancy, but it served its purpose. It is now holding all our cards, invitations, and other memento type items.
