Has anyone honeymooned in Iceland or Norway? Would you mind sharing your experience and about how much you ended up spending?

I know it's not what you asked, but my parents recently traveled to Iceland and they had an absolutely amazing time! According to my mom there were lots of free things to do in nature, but the things that you did have to pay for tended to be kind of pricey.

I went in late September of 2011. We jumped on one of the crazy package deals when Icelandair relaunched the flights out of IAD, so we only paid $550 per person for flights and hotels, but we only went for a long weekend (3 full days with 2 hotel nights).

We spent an additional $100 per person on food during those 3 days, and we were doing it as cheap as humanly possible. Like I don't really even remember any meals I think we basically just ate pizza the whole time. And we bought our booze in Duty Free before leaving the airport bc alcohol is REALLY expensive. The locals all pregame a lot and then don't go to the bars until really late.

I agree w/ StPaulGal that activities are pricey. In the 3 days we were there we managed to spend $300 per person on entrance fees, transportation etc.

I would recommend checking out the package deals Icelandair offers. The lodging wont be super luxurious if you go that route but for us it was perfectly adequate.

There are a few people, like myself, one here that are doing Iceland for the honeymoon! We haven't planned out the trip yet, so I'm not sure what kind of spending we'll have. We're planning to go to the Blue Lagoon and several of the waterfall, glacier, and volcano excursions.

I've been to Norway to visit family, it's beautiful. Norway is very expensive, the flight alone for me was $1200, food was at least $100 a day and that was casual eating, I didn't book any excursions and didn't have a car there. Oslo is very commuter friendly, there are trains and buses to everything. I went to Vigeland Park, the "naked statue park," and other free city sites. I can't really speak for other tourist-y things, I spent a lot of time with family and living like a local. But there are fjords, waterfalls, and plenty of interesting sites to explore in the Oslo area and beyond.

This information is great @StPaulGal & Jennifer! One of the reasons I was leaning toward Iceland over Norway was the much shorter flight and air fair/hotel was a little cheaper. But it's good to know other things are pricey.

Thank you @Van Pear! I really didn't realize these places were that pricey. Ugh...I suck at honeymoon planning LOL.

My husband and I go to Iceland a couple times a year and we love it! There is so much to do, and you don't have to do any tours if you don't want to spend the money. We like to rent a car and treat it like a road trip. It's relatively affordable to get there, and I would say that hotels/Airbnbs are about the same as in the US (maybe $90-$110 a night for a decent enough place depending on the time of year). Sometimes Icelandair has packages that include flights + hotel + a tour for a really great price. The food is pricey though. We usually try to stay in an Airbnb with a kitchen so we can cook our own meals, or make sure the hotel we pick has breakfast included.

I've been to Norway as well. I'm not positive about the flight because we took a train from Sweden to Norway, but it's probably only a few hundred more than Iceland if you take Icelandair (maybe then you could squeeze in stop-over in Iceland!?). Norway is gorgeous, we spent time in Oslo as well as Bergen. I really want to visit the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway, they look incredible!

We booked our honeymoon to Iceland through Nordic Visitor and so far we are over the moon with their customer service and attention to detail.

We are going Monday - Monday and have several tours and excursions booked and are paying $6000 total including airfare (airfare wasn't included in our package but I added it on).
