Anyone getting married 7/2/2021?

Shirley, on February 5, 2020 at 12:26 AM Posted in Wisconsin Planning 0 10
We are located in the Milwaukee County area. We just started the planning. Just picked our venue and DJ. Very exciting but overwhelming at the same time.

So excited for you! Who did you go with?

(I'm not getting married the same day as you)

Our venue is the hall at Classic Lanes in Oak Creek and we went with Midwest Sound doe the DJ. Now working on Save the Dates. I prefer it to be simple and inexpensive. I was thinking of making my own magnets but I am unsure how to do that.

I got my save the dates from minted! https://www.minted.com/ I was really happy with how those turned out, but I just went with a card and not a magnet. You can get a free sample kit from them. I waited for a sale and saved several hundred dollars. Since you're so far out you can wait it out a bit.

Magnet Street has them too - I liked their samples a lot https://www.magnetstreet.com/shop/save-the-date-magnets. They also had a sample kit as well.

This may or may not be a big deal to you (or you may already know this) there is an increased shipping cost with mailing magnets because of the weight. I personally also have stainless at my house and many people I know, do as well. Stainless appliances are not magnetic.

Thank you. That is all very good to know. I will check out Minted. I think I may just go with a card as well. Save the money and time. When do you think I should mail them out?

8 - 10 months out is typically when you send them. If you have a lot of people coming from out of town, closer to the 10 month mark would be a little bit more considerate so people can plan their vacation time/budgeting, etc.

If it makes you feel better, I had word of mouth at first because we didn't have engagement photos (took 3 weeks for edits in winter), then about a week - week and a half to have them made, and I'm mailing them out today for our 8/1 wedding Smiley smile Most people already know about it, but I still wanted to send them out. Our total engagement period is about 8 months so the 8-10 months wasn't happening lol

ALSO -- for what it's worth, once you start building out your timeline with other vendors, you'll need to work backwards to get your RSVP date and invitation order date. For example, my floral and cake people need final count 1 month before my wedding, but all those wedding timelines are saying I can order my invitations 3 months out. I need to let my floral guy know how many arrangements I'll need. I couldn't have 30 people outstanding after July 1, because that would be a difference of 3 arrangements! That's just not going to happen if you're going to do a traditional invite (like engraved or embossed, etc. ) those tended to be 6-10 weeks in production time.

    My timeline

    - ordering invitations this week (less RSVPs because our menu isn't set yet / can't be set yet); I'm using a different print method for RSVP which won't take as long (5.5 months out)

    - Tasting is early march (can then order RSVPs)

    - Invitations arrive mid to late march and can start assembly of invitations (4 months out)

    - RSVPs cards to insert will arrive end of march

    - send invites out in early April (3 months out)

    - RSVP by June 10 (6 weeks before wedding)

    - 2 weeks to follow up with anyone who didn't RSVP (definitely build this time in -- I also added a few extra days because of the holiday/summer)

    - Report to Vendors June 24-30

    - Deadline to cake and floral is July 1 (4 weeks before wedding)

Wow. Its amazing what is all invoked with planning a wedding. I wish I had the funds to hire someone. I love to plan but feel like I dont have the time. Besides the save the date cards I am also looking at finding the right dress.

This is my second wedding and his first. FH says he is good with everything I plan. We are having approximately 170. Our budget is to stay under $5,000. I think its possible. the venue, DJ and food will take up a good chunk of that. My cake is being made by FH aunt as her gift to us.
We are having a MOH and BM only. So I am planning to make my own flowers for the ceremony. I an also making my own table centerpieces and photo booth.

I would def keep tabs on sample sales, etc. White Dress Bridal Boutique always has some good ones, and you could also always grab a white dress that isn't "bridal" but looks bridal enough (note the Galvan Dress worn by Heidi Klum and a few other celebrities or this macduggal dress from nordstrom: https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mac-duggal-floral-embroidered-v-neck-gown/5372122/full?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&fashioncolor=White&color=floral%20multi). Resale sites, fb, can also be your friend. I'm using barefoot to bowties for my wedding as a planner, and their prices are reasonable and will even do consultations by the hour. You may want to reach out to them to see if they could possibly help you consult on building out your timeline?

The best way to control your cost is to control number of guests and the quality of the food. Doing your own centerpieces is definitely doable, especially if you're going to take a few days off before the wedding to get it done. I've heard great things about costcos arrangements though and actually I've used Metromarket and Sendik's for my other parties! It might be worthwhile to price that out and compare that too.
