Anyone else nervous about leaving pets?

You may want to reconsider sending him to another strange place. He has already had his life turned upside down. It’ll be a lot less stressful if someone can go to your place once a day or something along those lines. Being somewhere unfamiliar will make it harder on him.

If it's somewhere you've been with him that makes it a lot easier. 😊 We plan on keeping our cat with my parents for our honeymoon too because he really like it there, and will be already staying with with us in their house about two weeks prior. I suggest also keeping things around that smell of you. It will help. 😊 I also feel guilty when we leave our British Shorthair, but leaving him in a familiar environment is much easier.

If it’s an option, I would consider having someone housesit for you and look after you fur baby. It’ll be far less disruptive for your kitty as opposed to sending him somewhere else.
Your cat will know that you are away and will not be 100% comfortable until he’s home and you’re back, but he will definitely be more settled staying in the environment he is used to. But, with this said, it won’t be the end of the world!
Give him lots of toys and all of his favourites snacks

Get him a pet sitter that will check on him daily and will give him the love and attention.

We have a great pet sitter who my animals adore, I call her our pet whisperer. My most skiddish cat comes out of hiding when she's around and allows her to take photos with them.

Take a blanket or a piece of clothing that has your scent. Take some of his favorite toys & treats. While you’re at your grandmas try leaving for an hour or two at a time so your absence isn’t so abrupt.

I agree that having someone check on your cat would be ideal so he can stay in his own familiar environment, though if that's not an option, you could take a few visits with him to your grandma's house so he can start to become familiar with that environment. By the time you're ready to leave on your honeymoon, your grandma's house will be a familiar environment for him. I would also recommend bringing some of your cat's favorite toys, cat bed (if he has one), and an item with your scent on it.

Maybe a friend or family can come by and check on him??? To make sure his ok! I remember when i first went on vaca for a whole week...we had my mom check on my cat who is my baby lo we love her so much so i know what u mean....I would suggest that

We had our neighbors spend time with our cats while we were gone. They visited, fed them, played with them etc. It helped.

Our dog has pretty bad anxiety, especially if FH and I are both gone. We worry about him so much, even if it is just a trip to the grocery store or date night; I'm not sure what to do when we go on our honeymoon. He is fairly comfortable with FH parents and their dog but still sits at the door or the top of stairs looking out the window for us. I think we are going to have my brother stay at our place and hang out with him, he's great with our dog and our dog loves him.

I would suggest a few things; get him comfortable with your grandma now, and plan to have that her stay at your place while you are away. He will be more relaxed in his own home, even if you aren't there. Staying in an unfamiliar place like an animal hotel or relative's house will be very stressful. If you must, leave t-shirts you have worn with him so he can relax on those. I'm not sure your view-point on CBD oil, it helped our dog a little bit, but not willing to give it to him continuously because of cost and sometimes it just didn't seem to work.

I would also start leaving for a little bit every day to prep him for time alone. Quarantine has been hard on pets having everyone home all day and the sudden jolt to you being gone for your honeymoon would be easier if he’s already used to you leaving.

This is precisely it, our cats (2) were brought back and forth between home and they're sitters and they are completely at home in either place.

Bring all of their stuff and some of your own. This way they can smell you and it will help their anxiety. When ever we leave we have someone stay at our house to watch our dogs.

We will either take our cat to my parents, my FH parents or keep him at our place. He's been at all 3 before so he knows the places and is familar with our in laws and parents pets. I would say keep him someplace he is comfortable and maybe have someone housesit? Having someplace familiar will be best I think.

What a cutie! I have 2 cats and I hate leaving them alone (I have a pet security camera so I can see them while we're away ), but out of the two options, having someone come to your home to take care of him is WAY better than bringing him to an unfamiliar place. I have grown up with cats and also volunteer at my local animal shelter and cats tend to get stressed in new environments with new scents and people. We don't live by family so I had found a really great pet sitting company in our area and have met the 2 sitters who would take care of our cats, depending on their schedules. Usually what they do before you go away is come to your place so you can go over all your pet's info (food, water, litter, etc.) and then you can give them a spare key and then either they mail you back the spare key once you return or you can pick it up. If you have a family or friend who can take care of them, even better! I have auto feeders and a water fountain so mine are pretty set on food and water, but I do use the sitter mostly to clean their litter everyday and also play with them and give them treats. Always good to have someone give your kitty attention when you're away!
