Anyone else get weird/rude responses to their honeymoon plans?

auberginequeen, on September 28, 2016 at 3:42 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 52

Whenever anyone finds out I'm engaged they inevitably ask about our honeymoon plans. Frankly I feel lucky that we even can go on a honeymoon but it's going to require a lot of scrimping after especially since I do not get PTO. We're going to Asheville, NC and I'm really excited! So many people have told me I'd love it there. But people seem to expect me to leave the country, or at least go to Hawaii or something. I'm in FL and have had plenty of beach days already. I've had two people flat out ask me why I'd want to go somewhere so boring on a honeymoon or that I might as well have waited so we could save for something "better". I'm sure I'm not the only one who has dealt with this so feel free to vent here. It's very 1st world problem I MO but people are just so rude and then their stupid comments get in my head.

I haven't gotten that, but you could always tell them you are looking forward to a nice quite vacation after all the wedding craziness.

Who cares what they think. Your honeymoon, your choice. Especially if you leave near a beach its probably not somewhere you wanna spend money to travel to a different beach scene. My FH and I both love amusement parks. We are going to Disneyland. Without the kids so we can enjoy everything. Some people think it's childish, oh well!

    Boo!

I hate when other people rain on people's parade.

    Have a great honeymoon!

Ugh you're right but it's just frustrating. I would never say anything like that to someone! Weddings really seem to bring out the rudeness in some people . . .

Yeah, we're planning to spend some time in my better half's family vacation home (a mere 3 hour drive) and people seem to think we should go somewhere more exciting. I love the house, I love Sea Ranch, and I love any excuse to spend time there.

We didn't even take a honeymoon so screw the nay-sayers. Smiley winking My dad and step-mom have been to Asheville several times and love it -- that's why they keep going back! A honeymoon doesn't have to be international or exotic. Just you and your new DH chillaxin' and basking in the glory of being newlyweds. Smiley smile

We honeymooned in Asheville. No one said anything negative to me. Probably because my friends all know how much I love it there! Just brush it off. Or tell them in a really excited way - most people won't rain on your parade if you sound excited about your plans.

I've had mostly great feedback. I am going to Hawaii, and I've had a couple people make a big deal out of the fact that I would spend so much money on a vacation (even though I haven't shared the cost).

I love Asheville! That's where FH and I went on our first weekend getaway together. It's gorgeous and there are a lot of cool things to do/see!

Can you tell me what is in Asheville?? Just curious? (maybe I'll want to try it out sometimeSmiley smile ) We are actually going to Florida.. Its a gift from a cousin, she has a timeshare in Orlando, so its a good deal around our wedding date... They will actually be down there too.. Some people find it crazy that we will be spending some of our honeymoon with my cousins family... We find it perfectly fine with itSmiley smile excited actually Smiley smile (we won't feel completely lost, since my cousin is there often lol) We have no plans but to hang out at the resort and maybe spend a day at Universal. That's our style, and what we like. If what you are interested in, is in Asheville, so be it. I always wonder that about people like you Florida peeps, if you ever get sick of the beachy days.. lol. Have fun, relax and be married Smiley smile

We are going to Palm Springs. Younger people are like "oh, really?" Older people are like "oooh, Palm Springs!" lol

But we are pretty damn excited, and that's all that matters.

I told my parents we had booked our honeymoon to London. My dad says he's afraid for me because of the rise of terror attacks in Europe. But that shit happens everywhere, so...

ETA I've never been to Asheville but I've heard it's a fun, quirky place!

My FIL and my parents seem to think our honeymoon isn't a real honeymoon. We are taking a week off after the wedding and going to Las Vegas for 4days/3 nights. I think it is a honeymoon, it might not be Hawaii (where my parents went for theirs) or anywhere overseas but I think its pretty darn special. We're seeing shows, have fancy dinner reservations, and hey I can see Paris and Italy there ;P

We didn't go on a honeymoon. Didn't have the money or the time. We are planning a trip to Disney (possibly the cruise) for next year. And we're taking the kids. We get a lot of shit because "that's not a honeymoon. That's a family vacation". Well you know what, it's fucking honeymoon to us.

I'm so sick of judgmental people! Yeah that may not be my cup of tea, but it may be perfect for you. It's not even about the location either, it's about spending time as a newlywed couple and experiencing new things. You will have a great time!

We booked Bora Bora.. were scared of telling people where were going because of their reactions. I think our parents would faint if they knew

Yes. FH is a full-time student and we are hoping to buy a house in the year after the wedding, so even though we could have gone on a more exotic honeymoon, it's just not how we are choosing to spend our money right now. We are spending 5 nights in Arizona and it's going to be beautiful and romantic, but I've had a few people say "huh, that's not a real honeymoon, why don't you go to Hawaii." It was getting me really down at the beginning, but now I just write them off as rude.

Asheville is the shiz. It's so romantic and a perfect honeymoon. Don't listen to others. If you're happy, then do you!

Sorry for the other people having to deal with this too, but at least we're not alone!

@LelaD ha ha, it's not that I necessarily get TIRED of beach vacations but it's just so easily accessible it seems like a silly thing to do for a particularly special occasion - we just spent a few days at a nice beach hotel for FH's birthday this year anyway. Plus, there's a chance we'll get to see the pretty fall leaves which I've never experienced!!

@MelissaErin Where in Arizona are you going? That was on our list too!
