Anyone Been To Italy, Greece, or Jamaica? Honeymoon Ideas.

FH and I stayed in the Club Riu Palace, Ocho Rios Jamaica for 10 nights. It was AMAZING!! We booked it through bookit.com as a package which included round trip air fare, hotel transfers and the hotel room. The resort is huge and has so much to do! The excursions we did (Dunns River Falls and Mystic Mountain) were unlike anything we have ever done before. The food was amazing too, as well as the drinks!!

I've been to Italy, I would skip Pisa - seriously, it just isn't impressive at all and is such a tourist trap. Florence and Rome are amazing, I've never been to Venice. I would recommend at least a few days in Florence if you are at all interested in art because there is so much to see. The best way to travel from city to city is probably by train because Rome requires special permits for driving and the drivers are INSANE!!! We took taxi's if we needed to go somewhere off the beaten path, but mainly we walked from place to place and took trains from city to city and it was wonderful.

I went with a girlfriend on a whirlwind trip of Europe (London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice) for 3 weeks right after college graduation. It was the best time of my life! I'd love to go back to Italy for the honeymoon but stay in a villa in the Tuscan countryside away from the tourists and just relax. Im not sure if we are going to do that though due to transatlantic flights being much more expensive. We are thinking of Jamaica too. It is supposedly beautiful and an AI would be so nice. I definitely wouldn't mind going back to Paris either...what an absolutely romantic city! I'm thinking though that the language and culture barrier would be harder on a honeymoon though. I kind of just want to be catered to and relax. I have had several suggestions that we should not go somewhere touristy so we can actually relax and just enjoy each other. I was an art history and classics major so I'd be dragging him into every museum in Paris or anywhere in Italy, even if I've been before.

If you do decide to do Italy, those big cities are best visited by train and you use the metro in Rome, walk in Florence and Venice (and of course take boat taxis in Venice! Much less expensive than gondolas!).

My friend and I traveled for three weeks in Europe for about $**** (cant remember exactly) each including flights. We stayed in lovely hostels in London and Florence and rented private apartments in Paris, Rome, and Venice. That is definitely the way to go. Private apartments are so much cheaper than hotels and you have your own space in lovely residential areas. But then of course...no room service or housekeeping! Lol! We will probably do Jamaica or somewhere with an all inclusive so everything is taken care of for us I know I'll make it back to Europe soon!

I stayed in the Sunset Jamaica Grande Ocho Rios. We loved it. The rooms were beautiful, the food was great and they had plenty of choices for excursions.

I've been to Jamaica many times but that's because that is where my Mom's side hails from. All but the last time I was there I stayed with family. I stayed at the Riu in Ocho Rios and absolutely loved it. Like Lisa C we went to Dunns River and went to Mystic mountain. We also went to a local market and had a ball at all of the stalls. The Riu is all about fun and food. They had shows throughout our stay including a beach party. Loved the food and stayed at the Jerk Hut. Yummy.

We are going to Italy for our honeymoon. We are going to Venice, Pisa, Florence, and Rome. We're traveling in between cities by train. We are making a small trip to Pisa just to see it and then we're leaving. We're only spending a day or two in Venice, and then a few days in both Florence and Rome (Rome has the most days.) We are flying into Venice from Paris (we're going to London and Paris before Italy.) Then we're flying home out of Rome. We booked everything on our own. The good thing is compared to at least London and Paris, the hotels in Italy are a lot nicer and cheaper! Our hotel in Venice is right on the water and I'm not sure of the exact price but it wasn't outrageous. All the hotels in Italy include breakfast, so that's a plus, too.

@FutureMrsL Did you book hotels In all 3 cities seperately? Also where did you do your booking through? How will you go from city to city? Sorry for all the questions I'm trying to see if I should just book a tour package or do everything on my own.

I've heard Jamaica is gorgeous and everyone says it's worth it so I put it on my list because I went on a cruise and loved it, but I want the full experience.

Okay well my advice to FutureMrsL - make sure you stamp your train tickets going to and from Pisa with the time stamp at the train stations otherwise you will be fined $100 per person. Just a little friendly reminder from someone who went through that fun thinking purchasing a ticket for that day meant it didn't have to be stamped.

Greece is nice, and at the moment cheap but because it is popular with northern/west Europe they tend to stick to the islands.

Italy is lovely, I liked Pisa but just to walk up the tower and that was it a few hours, Venice is nice but packed, Florence for art, Rome is lovely, the Vatican spectacular, Genoa is nice as well, been to a few others. Don't bother with a tour, buy train tickets and you are fine. Where ever you go it Italy carry a scarf and leggings in your bag just so you can go into things you weren't planning on without going back and changing

@FutureMrsLaguna - I visited Italy with family a few years ago and went back a second time when I was working in the Netherlands. I didn't visit on my honeymoon because I knew my husband wouldn't enjoy being dragged to all of the galleries that I would want to see.

I won a grant to travel to Italy for work, so here's what we did…

1) Flew into Milan because it was less expensive. Stayed one day and saw da Vinci's last summer (book ahead!)

2) Took a train into Venice, stayed for three days. Did a variety of tours that we purchased from Viator (a walking tour, a tour of the Doge's Palace, etc). Purchase a water bus pass and go to Burano and Murano, two outlying islands.

3) Took a train to Verona, stayed two days (needed to stay more - it was amazing). Did more tours via Viator and bought a Verona pass to get us into more places cheaper.

4) Took a train to Florence. Spent three days there - with one side day to Pisa. Needed more days - it's such an amazing town. Prebooked entry into museums and took more day tours from Viator.

5) Took a train to Rome. Spent 3 days. I've been to Rome twice now. Get a Roma Pass (you'll get to avoid lines at sites), book your tour to the Vatican now through their website -and get the garden tour (it comes with entry to the museum and the Sistine Chapel, but you also get to see the gardens).

We book everything before we left- hotels (we used hotels.com and found little, family-owned hotels), train tickets, museum entries, etc. If you do that, you're guaranteed entry and you have less money you have to exchange when you're there.

We're going to Italy for our honeymoon! We booked it ourselves through expedia because it lets you pick an arrival destination (Rome for us) and a departure city (Venice for us) so you still get a package deal. We just had to book our hotel in Florence separately. We have train tickets to get from city to city and booked some tours through Viator.com so we can skip the line for a lot of the major attractions. We booked a day trip to Pisa from Florence so we can see it through this website, as well as a day trip to Pompeii, hiking through Cinque Terre, etc.

We're doing 5 days in each city, and it cost us (with the tours) about $7000 and we're planning on spending probably another $1000 there.

You can travel Italy by train if you want to go to multiple cities. However, I suggest picking 2 or 3 cities so you have more time to spend in each. I've been to Italy several times and always enjoyed staying in one place for longer than cramming in a bunch of destinations into one trip.

My wife and I went to Italy for three weeks and it was amazing! We planned our trip over a couple of months and did our own thing, with one exception. we bought into a tour to Pisa (I think it's worth it), San Gimignano, and one other city that I can't remember the name of.

We spent about $6,500 for the entire trip. That included airfare, hotel, food, souvenirs, etc. When booking airfare, check for layovers. We spent 19 hours in Copenhagen, Denmark (and had a good time, just because of a layover). Our trip spanned 5 countries, (it's all in the planning and budget) Italy, Switzerland, San Rimini, Vatican City, and Denmark.

The short version:

Transportation: take the train and go first class. The difference in price isn't much and its by far worth it. Also bring a good pair of walking shoes and walk everywhere. Your feet will hurt, but you'll see more. lots more.

food: Stay away from tourist restaurants. How do you tell the difference? If they are all smiles and being nice, it's not a tourist restaurant (they are also off the beaten path). Also, eat at a local deli (buy meats and cheeses, and wine) then go to a park/nice spot and eat. Check the laws about drinking in public.

Hotel: We booked most of our hotels online and didn't have any problems.

Locations to see: Rome, Venice (its awesome but expensive, but worth every penny), Verona, Florence (fantastic city, go to the Duomo), San Gimignano (old city and awesome!), Sorrento (fantastic views and the best sunsets I've ever seen), Positano (cool cliff side city).

Bring a camera (an extra bag, for souvenirs) and enjoy yourself!

Jamaica! Check out this place just for something different. It's in Port Antonio (2 hr drive from Kingston). You would enjoy this place if what you're looking for is privacy is one of the most beautiful spots in Jamaica that most tourists would never see. Not at all an all inclusive, but a private 1 bedroom cottage just a short swim away from famous Monkey Island. This is my cousins best friends place. We went here for my cousin's bachelorette party (she lives in Cayman Islands). It is gorgeous. We had a cook/maid (I believe it's included) and she would slice up the most wonderful fresh fruit display every morning and put it out on the terrace with fresh coffee and juices and she would also cook us lunch, and we normally went out for dinner. This is a short drive to an amazing waterfall (YS Falls) where you can swim and climb the waterfall (not at ALL touristy where it's like 100 people in a line walking up Dunns River). There are AMAZING places a short distance away to eat lobster, fresh fish, get fresh coconut water, small little bars. Again, if you're into adventure and tranquility, this is an amazing place. Right across the street is Goblin Hill, which you can sit and watch the most amazing different varieties of Jamaican hummingbirds come and feed on the flowers. This place is just magical. FH and I love Jamaica! We went to Couples Tower Isle (near Ocho Rios) and had the time of our lives. It was absolutely incredible! We booked a vacation package (including flights) through Funjet Vacations and it was a pretty good deal. We spent a week there for about $3600, all-inclusive.

I've been to Negril, Jamaica. I had a wonderful time at the Sunset at the palms resort. Its really private and all inclusive. The villas are treetops, just your bed, private balcony and restroom. I would go back again. I booked thru travelocity.
