Anyone advise of New York City venues that are budget friendly or less expensive?

SUSAN, on July 12, 2023 at 4:31 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 9

Getting some serious sticker shock! Trying to put together a cost effective option for a reception (cocktail hour, dinner, drinks, dancing. ) Anyone have any good ideas or references? Looking more for specific venues, caterers etc rather than wedding planners. Thank you

As a Ny resident, the cost of venues here is exactly why we got married out of state. I’m not very versed on nyc venues but hopefully someone has a recommendation. But I hope you’ll be able to find something! The cost of stuff is just astronomical these days

Congrats on your engagement , it’s not fun realizing how expensive weddings in NY are. Some of the easiest ways to keep cost down is to keep your guest list on the smaller side if possible, choose a day other than Saturday, and/or think of having a brunch wedding. NYC is going to be expensive and I m not sure what your budget is but try 501 Union in Brooklyn or Sicily Osteria on W 46th st, definitely check out different restaurants too. The other options would be to look in Westchester and Rockland try Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers , Capitol Theater in Port Chester, or the View on the Hudson in Piermont. Best of luck to you! 🩵

Thank you. I think we may also look at other options.

Thanks, I will look at those. Just got a quote for $17,500 plus $400 per person, plus of course a 22% service fee, taxes and then a gratuity expected on top of that!! Crazy.

Oye that’s a frustrating quote. The further out of the city you go prices may come down. Unfortunately prices have gone up everywhere in NY it seems. I know there used to be a few places around Cortland NY that we’re semi affordable but honestly I m not sure what they run now, Cortland Colonial, Monteverde at Old Stone ,and Villa Barone in Mahopac. The New Rochelle venues are expensive but they do include a lot and the events I ve been to there have always been top notch (Glen Island, Surf Club, VIP, Davenport Mansion, and Greentree). There are 2 mansion in white plains that I ve been to weddings in the last 5 yrs I m not sure what the costs of just the venue was but the entire events (all vendors and expenses) were between 48k and 56k Cv Rich Mansion and the Mansion on Broadway, this was for Saturday night summer weddings. Best of luck to you I hope you find the perfect place at a great price

    Hi there

It's hard to give a helpful recommendation without knowing your budget and the size wedding you want. But I'll share my experience.

I'm getting married at 501 Union in Brooklyn (Gowanus). It fit my aesthetic perfectly. Its designed to be a wedding venue so it all flows nicely from the cocktail lounge, to the ceremony space, to the main dinner hall. I think weekends in most months are at least $10,000 or more for the space, but you can book a weekday or off-season month to save money. I am getting married on a Thursday which saved me about $3000 and brought the price back down to four figures. What's nice is that you also get the space for the entire day you book it, and the space is so beautifully designed that I dont feel the need to spend hardly anything on decor.

When I looked for venues, I set $10,000 as my absolute maximum for the venue rental. My original idea was a high rise in Manhattan so that we would have a view. But I soon learned that this type of venue with my budget resulted in only two types of spaces: ones that fit my aesthetic but were far too small for the size wedding I needed (aka spaces that fit no more than about 60-70 people). Or, ones that were cheap but true "raw spaces" and would need an immense about of design, florals, lighting, etc to turn it into what I wanted, therefore negating the cheap cost of the space.

I considered the Ravel Hotel in LIC, since it was a more affordable way to get a high rise view for my size wedding (about 100 people). But ultimately chose against it because its in sort of a "no man's land" area of LIC with really nothing around it (and I have lots of out of state guests who will want to explore the city easily) and my wedding would have needed to be split across spaces on 2 or 3 floors of the hotel.

In any case, I would search more in Brooklyn or Queens to lower the prices a little bit (though even those boroughs are getting pricy). Eliminating places with a skyline view will also help keep prices down.

Hey there! Congrats!! I’m on the same boat. Definitely doing somewhere in Connecticut. I’m looking for something industrial or more rustic. My top 4 are The Venue at widinghill, garden at the hops, 501 union and wood acres farm. I have been to 501 union yet but I hear good things
