Hey y’all - are any of you from the DMV area or a major metropolitan? I’m curious the cost you had for gown alterations. Mine are pretty standard with a few minor customizations (removing cups, taking in the skirt). My dress is only two layers. I got quoted $1,700 and I am mind blown. SOS!

Hi Sarah! That does sound like a lot!! It's hard to give an "average cost" for alterations because it totally depends on each dress, but most brides tend to spend between $500-800 on dress alterations. Have you thought about taking your dress somewhere else for a second opinion?
I used Green and Blue Studio in Dupont Circle and really liked them!

I did end up getting an estimate from somewhere in Manassas! It was much more aligned with that number, so I’m not sure what the first place’s deal was! I’ll have to look into Green and Blue Studio! Thanks much!

I have a lot of friends who drive out to Leesburg and visit Leesburg Bridal for alterations. They added gorgeous straps and made a plunging neckline. They did a ton of alterations for my best friend ... basically redesigned the entire dress). I forget how much everything cost but it was very reasonable! Definitely not $1500!

I've gone to Cheryl Lofton for (excellent) non-bridal alterations -- she also does bridal alterations and custom dresses. I'd recommend seeing her for a quote!
