Alterations Sticker Shock

Alisha, on February 15, 2021 at 5:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I had my 1st bridal gown fitting and it went very well. I enjoyed the lady who fitted my dress. She was very helpful in a lot of ways. Then she gave the cost of fitting my and altering it. Of course me being me I was trying to add up the costs in my head lol. Eventually I gave up trying lol. So we (my mom and I) get to the register to pay for my alterations for my dress. Well let's just say the expression on my face was "What" lol. To my surprise I turned to my mom and said alterations are expensive. She said yeah they are. I kindly paid it but the shock of paying that much for alteration for my dress. The good thing is I am love my dress and how it turned out. I am happy in.

In store alterations are very expensive. Contact a local seamstress who works independently via Yelp. They will be a fraction of the price with higher quality work. You should have been allowed to comparison shop before committing to the store seamstress.

Yes in store are expensive. I went on and paid. I didn't think about going to a local seamstress about alterations. That did not cross my mind when I was thinking about alterations for my dress. It was a lot considering that I am trying to stay within budget.

I feel you girl! My dress was $810 (have a total budget of $1500 for everything). Foolishly, I thought it would only cost maybe $150 for alterations (very unrealistic on my part). Huge surprise when I went to the register & was told it was $770!

Wow! The sticker price is shocking. It amazes me how much a dress and alterations cost. I didn't include the alteration cost when I budget for my dress at the time of purchase. But I didn't think it would be this much but I am happy about the way my dress will turn out.

Yup! But when they tell you the price, you’re just standing there, looking dumbfounded, with a “did I just hear correctly?” look on your face!

I feel you! I just got back from the seamstress and have to pay $200 for a hem. My dress alone was $240 so the hem is almost the same cost. I was in shock.

It was a shock. My mom said the same thing about the alterations being almost the cost of my dress. It had to be done for it to look right.

Yeah, I guess the $200 will be worth it, as I won’t trip over my too long dress and facepalm in front of everybody 😂
I’m glad you are so happy with your dress. I’ll pick mine up Wednesday and hope it will look amazing.

Thanks. Everything will be fine. I was nervous too. My mom and I made sure that my dress will be perfect. Things that we noticed during alterations, we pointed it out to the alteration’s person and went back a fixed. She was fantastic bc she took her time to make sure that it was right. It was a good partnership. When you go in for your alterations, just make sure that it is right for you. If see something that is not right, let them know and they will fix it. You want to be satisfied and happy.
