Alterations opinion/question

Melinda, on December 1, 2021 at 4:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I recently started alterations on my dress. I have full faith in the gentlemen doing them but do have one thing I’m questioning.
My dress (Abella Bridal l-Mariah) has a deep v in the front with a mesh insert. When choosing the dress the first thing I wanted to do was cut that mesh part out. When I brought this up my alterations guy said that he can not do that because the back was so low it would cause the straps to slip.
I’m wondering that if the dress fits like a glove like I want it do you think this will still happen? Has anyone ever heard of this?
Thanks for you input! Alterations opinion/question 1Alterations opinion/question 2

I think he's right. if you remove the mesh, there's nothing pulling the center in, and so the straps will pull outwards and off the arms.

Your only option if you hate the mesh as far as I can see would be to remove it, but sew that center up a bit higher - and I'm not sure how high it would have to be before it offered the support you need to keep the straps up, and if you liked the low bust, that's not going to be your preference either.

They are correct. Without the mesh holding the super low V in the front (coupled with the extremely low back) there is going to be no structure/support to the bodice of the dress. Not only will the straps fall, the V in the front will likely “slump”. And when you sit, the V is going to gap open (and very possibly cause a nip slip).

Thank you both for your responses. That makes sense and I definitely don't want any unfortunate slips happening!

I'll leave the mesh where it is.

They are really right, my friend who got married 2 years ago also wanted to change her dress. But she heard the same thing
